We are in Baton Rouge as well. At this point there is no good outcome to hope for. NO will be severely damaged and BR will suffer moderate to severe damage. People think you are in New Orleans because you have "no" in your tag line.
I thought Creedence was saying tane until I saw Ike and Tina Turner.
Her body language left no doubt.

From our plane landing today, the old Miss Bridge in BR was bumper to bumper as was Airline Hwy north of the city.
You wouldn't think that if you've ever lived in NJ. :)
It's kinda academic at this late stage. If you're huddled under some makeshift shelter are you gonna care less if it's blowing 167 or 169? I'm starting to think that it's too late for any weakening to have a major affect on the storm now.
Dr. Walter Maestri, head of the Emergency Management Agency of Jefferson Parish (Metairie) said that if the city gets over 15 feet of water the pumps will be under water. They will not operate and it will take 60-90 days to rebuild the pumps. Which means, he said, New Orleans could be under water for as long as six months.
I don't want us touching the SOR at allI'd rather see an executive order to drill in ANWR, upgrade existing/build new refineries to increase capacity, etc., and the enviro-wackos be d*mned.
I certainly would not want to be in that superdome tonight and risk diying among strangers. I'd rather be under a bridge.
What a mess this country has become.
She is indeed the REAL south. I get so angry when northerners (which we were until 7 years ago) talk about how bigotted the south is.
What we've noticed here is that people of all races get along better down here than up north. People are polite and caring and sweet with each other.
Six months? While the city is under sea level, shouldn't you be able to let out much of the water in the city just by breaching the upper part of the levee walls in a few places (after the initial storm flooding on the Lake and River have ebbed). It wouldn't let out the below sea level stuff, but it should lower the stuff above the first floors.
Bastardi called Cat 5 Catastrophic a full day before anyone else.
Adam Clayton Powell used to tell reporters that his favorite drink was 'poon tang' and told them it was a mixture of Tang and vodka. They believed him! LOL
Yeah those damn trucks delivering goods sure guzzle the fuel. This isn't about SUV's, this is about keeping commerce moving.
Well I never.
Guess my general lifelong apathy towards rock lyrics has held me in good stead. For the 30 seconds or so pondering such, during the many years since this song was variously recorded, I had guessed at completely other words regarding this song.
The reason they want to open the oil reserve is too make filling up their gas guzzler less painful...for a few weeks.
Well Joe is also a semi-professional wrestler so maybe he'll wrestle it into submission.
I understand the mayor and governor were holding off because they didn't know who was going to pay for the evacuation (waiting for the Feds?). There's some fine "leadership". Jeeeez.
Is Landrieu trying to blame Bush yet? She was on earlier on another channel and I was getting things done around here and thought she said something politically unncessary.
I thought I heard earlier that humane societies were picking up as many as they could to take to some kind of shelter for them; I was in the next room, though, and didn't hear the whole piece.
