The little heard of town of Port Fourchon has the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port.
It only handles a million barrels of oil a day.
Scratch Port Fourchon and the the La. Offshore Oil Port, and you have a tough time replacing the capacity to unload a million barrels of oil -- a day.
Admittedly, this place is West of the Mouth of the Mississippi, but a Cat 3 storm will probably knock it out.
So, in this case, Katrina coming close to this town will be enough to destroy enough capability as to hurt folks at the pump...
And depending on the damage to the LOOPS offshore oil terminal, we may actually have to use SPR for its rightful purpose.
