That's not a good sign. 185 mph is the midrange of an F-3 tornado. That's a severe tornado, defined as "Roofs and some walls torn off well-constructed houses; trains overturned; most trees in forest uprooted; heavy cars lifted off the ground and thrown."
Throw in that Katrina might well throw in tornadoes on top of that wind, and the storm surge, and the major rainfall.
