We used to go out to the paddocks of the racetrack
out Elysian Fields and pick mushrooms, but that's

I do believe that you meant Esplanade Ave. and not Elysian Fields Ave. Elysian Fields goes out to the lake. Esplanade passes the racetrack and ends, more or less, at City Park. I lived on Grand Route St. John which intersects Esplanade and is right next to the track. I could hear them call the races from my back stairs. :-)
