The conditions in the GOM are quite different than what we saw with Opal.

However, with Opal there were some cooler SSTs in the northern Gulf that helped weaken her before landfall.

But right now the Northern Gulf has the warmest SSTs in the Atlantic Basin. And Katrina's moving into them.
