It was elementqal mercury. I thought it was powdered because it was contained in Tupperware and taped closed -- like a box of flour. It looked white through the semi-opaque plastic. I never looked inside because I was told to leave it alone. My husband informed me this morning, when I asked, that there was a JAR inside the Tupperware and it was full of the standard, silvery Mercury that we all know and love so much. I kid you not, that box of mercury has been sitting in the back of a storeroom adjoining my office for 10 years, and in our lab for many years previous. LOL.
