VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson called on Monday for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, calling him a "terrific danger" to the United States.
Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition of America and a former presidential candidate, said on "The 700 Club" it was the United States' duty to stop Chavez from making Venezuela a "launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism."
Chavez has emerged as one of the most outspoken critics of President Bush, accusing the United States of conspiring to topple his government and possibly backing plots to assassinate him. U.S. officials have called the accusations ridiculous.
"You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it," Robertson said. "It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop."
Electronic pages and a message to a Robertson spokeswoman were not immediately returned Monday evening.
Venezuela is the fifth largest oil exporter and a major supplier of oil to the United States. The CIA estimates that U.S. markets absorb almost 59 percent of Venezuela's total exports.
Venezuela's government has demanded in the past that the United States crack down on Cuban and Venezuelan "terrorists" in Florida who they say are conspiring against Chavez.
Robertson accused the United States of failing to act when Chavez was briefly overthrown in 2002.
"We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability," Robertson said.
"We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator," he continued. "It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with."
maybe you should stop pinging me and trying to lecture me.
again, show proof that i directly called for it.
Sorry, didn't see 40. Posts flying by fast. Be back in a sec.
Yep. :-)
I just did.
If you are truly one of them there sleeper trolls -do you really want to blow your cover and get a zotting over Pat Robertston?
Okay. I've been around a while myself and I've seen you in some heated exchanges. I wouldn't have blamed you if you had said it.
Do you or do you not agree with Pat; and did you not communicate that when you said, "Right on, Pat!"
If so, then you also called for Chavez's death. Grow some stones for crying out loud and just admit it instead of trying (and failing) to hide behind technicalities.
Back with my reply to 40 shortly.
Then what the he@# do you call what we did in the War for Independence, 1812, Civil War, WW1 and 2, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq etc. Our whole country's WW2 patriotic population that this web site now represents (we carry on their values and traditions) wanted us to kill every enemy we had, even nuke them, so don't give me your gas.
Most of us were for the assasination attempt on Hitler and wish it would have succeeded.
I call for the assasination of all terrorists and do so proudly.
I am so impressed to hear of your brave, heroic and superior moral stance that would never hurt a fly.
Some folks deserve to die. Mugabe is one, the ruler in N. Korea is another, and the ruler of Iran may soon be a third, along with the militant clergy behind the curtain. My beef with Robertson is he is a dumbass. He is a useful idiot for Chavez, but Ropbertson doesn't mind, because it gives him ink, and ink = $$$$$$$.
no, first you stated that OBL was a threat, essentially downplaying Chavez as if he's just a harmless fly. let's skip over that....if pat is wrong, what is your proposal then?
but..but...howlin says i cant say it, and i SHOULDNT have said what i did say!!! LMFAO!!!
:) Howdy Howlin, I see you're fighting the same battle I am, again...

The spinning in there is making me dizzy...
OBL had already taken direct action against the United States before 9/11. Direct action. Declared war, and actually executed it.
Chavez is a blowhard with, granted, some serious power. But there are a variety of ways to destablize his government, because frankly he is nothing but a blowhard without the power of his government to back him up. Assassination is neither necessary nor politically expedient.
Like I said, then. Grow some stones and just admit it.
Spinning? It looks more like hypocrisy to me.
