'Christian' Pat Robertson calls for the assassination of Venezuela's President Chavez

hristian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club host Pat Robertson ... founder of the Christian Coalition of America has called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias.

In a direct transcript of his August 22 The 700 Club broadcast Robertson clearly says:

There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.

You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.

It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... this is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen.

We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly.

We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability.

We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

Just how is the suggestion un-Christian?

Jesus said he came not to bring peace, but the SWORD.

The entire world is under the Kingdom of Christ. His dominion is everywhere. You seem to think he only is in control of heaven.

I did not realize we can pick and choose what parts of Scripture have lessons for us.

It is sad watching pansy-assed Christians who have NO concept of how God works in both testaments and who somehow think Christians are to sit back and accept injustice and evil in the world instead of fighting against it because we are to "turn the other cheek."

I am so damn sick and tired of lazy Christians and liberals who have twisted Scripture way beyond what those NT Scriptures were ever meant to be taken.

There is an amazing uniformity between the two testaments if you have a PROPER and Biblical covenant theology that the Reformers taught.

"Just how is the suggestion un-Christian? "

Suggesting murder is strictly against the Gospel.

Certainly so, but how is a government assassination murder?

I should note I don't like Pat Robertson. I don't like his theology and don't think Chavez is worthy of assassination. But, I don't see it as some horrible thing to be calling for, either.

Rebelbase considers actions by government murder, folks.

I wonder why he supports the war in Iraq, that murderous action against Scripture.

/sarcasm

Obviously you missed the entire premise of my original post and other commentary from me on this thread.

So, I'll rephrase my earlier comment. I don't have time for you.

Hugo Chavez is a Marxist enemy of America, and a dangerous one at that. The Gospel does not prohibit self-defense. Jesus Himself said, addressing His disciples, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one." (John 22:36, NIV) In Romans 13, Paul notes that civil government "beareth the sword" and that rulers are "the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil." (Romans 13:4, KJV)

Chavez, an ally of every Communist and Muslim extremist leader on this planet, is a supporter of international terrorism and is assisting narco-terrorist guerrillas in attempting to take over neighboring Columbia. He is as much an enemy of this nation as is Castro, Saddam, and every other anti-American tyrant going back to George III.

It is the duty of Christians in authority to use whatever means is necessary to eliminate Chavez. If that means assassination, so be it.

You are a liberal Christian, or a conservative infected by modern Christianity.

The Protestant Reformers would have had ABSOLUTELY NO problem Biblically with political assassination.

I trust them more than the modern church.

By the way, in regards to the turn the other cheek comment, check some old Protestant commentaries on the matter and look into Jewish tradition.

The advice was not to let yourself be abused, but while you think of some more creative retribution, let him have the other cheek.

"I have come NOT to bring peace, BUT THE SWORD."

Paul tells us to judge just judgment, and that the GOVERNMENT IS THE SWORD OF GOD.

Assassination is perfectly moral.
