hristian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club host Pat Robertson ... founder of the Christian Coalition of America has called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias.
In a direct transcript of his August 22 The 700 Club broadcast Robertson clearly says:
There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.
You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.
It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... this is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen.
We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly.
We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability.
We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

The Old Testament deals with specific instances having to do with Israel and its enemies
And the reason they were written and lasted through the ages??? For Israel still or for God to help us learn from their mistakes and do what he says ...(I am not saying PR knows) I disagree with people who think the Old Testament is just for Israel...

WHOOPS!!!!! This is a blooper the size of Godzilla. Pat Robertson really put his foot in his mouth on this one. Hugo Chavez is a horrible leader, but for a man of the cloth to be calling for an assassination is way off base. I disagree. Have you ever read the Bible? There are lots of stories how God, Himself went ahead of the Jews into battle. He told them repeatedly to slay the enemy.
I'm personally glad Pat said it. It's the truth and needs to be done! He's an enemy to us and many will die if he has his way about it.

Ooops, Sorry Jorge, I forgot, you're sensitive to spelling errors...
Let me correct myself..
How exactly do you SHOE HORN your Christian Principles into Assassination...
There, feel better now?
Enough to maybe answer the question.

Wow! Sounds like this Militant Evangelical Arminian has a clue!

Good Jorge, I certainly wouldn't want to make your veins bulge...

And finish off that old festering scab Castro while they're cleaning house.

Why don't these idiots THINK about what they say in a public forum?
Robertson has responsiblities larger than macho expressions better reserved for shouting at the TV, while at home alone.
Was he hoping somebody from the administration would hear him and think it was good advice?
The only explanation I can imagine is that he's drinking before going on air!
Oh...and IT DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU THINK HE'S RIGHT!!!!

but for a man of the cloth to be calling for an assassination is way off base. God called King David "a man after his own heart.
He also considered David a man of war.
Left to his own devices, Hugo Chavez is going to end up causing as much misery, death and distruction as Castro.
We should "Pull the weed."

Hitler was a Catholic! He would have sent in 100% Catholic units and destroyed the Vatican utterly, and to the applause of fascist Italian crowds of onlookers.Nein. Das ist nicht richtig. Er war kein katolischer Mensch und kein Christen auch.

No. I'm just saying we have to remember that Jesus IS GOD incarnate. We need to balance the teachings of Jesus with the OT to get the whole picture.
When God commands America to smite its enemies, I will lend your theory more credence.
We have the flower people who think that Jesus is all about forgiveness and being nice to everybody....but this is an idiotic application of the Bible when it comes to dealing with murdering dictators and enemies of America.
Let's try this one on for size: Jesus was not some hippy that was all about being nice *AND* there is nothing in the New Testament that talks about advancing American foreign policy.
To: PaulaB
I seem to get the impression from you that you don't believe God wants us to deal with evil
If you had said "I seem to get the impression from you that you don't believe God exists to advance the political or foreign policy agenda of the GOP, George Bush, or the neo-conservatives" I might have agreed with you.

So because God commanded Israel (speficially) to strike its (specific) enemies at the (specific) time of the Old Testament, that means we can just apply it to our specific cause in the present? So can I go around attempting to kill my son (like Abraham) or cheating my brother out of his birthright (like Jacob) or bringing walls down upon my enemies (like Samson)? I will listen when God Himself comes down and commands George W Bush to destroy Hugo Chavez. Until then, I will dismiss it as Republican partisans trying to hijack Christianity (and Judaism) to suit their own military and political objectives.

I disagree. Have you ever read the Bible? There are lots of stories how God, Himself went ahead of the Jews into battle. He told them repeatedly to slay the enemy.
Are you a Jew? Is America really Israel? Is Pat Robertson God or one of his anointed Prophets? Is this really 2,000 B.C. Judea? Is Venezuela really ancient Egypt and is Hugo Chavez really Goliath?
These historical chronicles of ancient wars are not meant to be some sort of marching orders to all Christians to strike down whoever they feel are their enemies.
To: NatsFan
. Chavez would be a martyr and someone else from his leftist party would take control, with more popular support. You mean like Salvadore Allende? And let's face it, Chavez isn't photogenic enough to have T-Shirts of him like Che.
To: muawiyah
sheez. I try to fight ignorance, make people think about their relevence, about their part in God's plan, and you bring up Antinomainism. Do you really think that it is relevent to the task a hand. That being a Marxist government, which has no faith, and will indiscriminately kill any who oppose their ideals. I am not sure that we, as persons, should take up the task, but our government might want to pop this guy, to save future bloodshed.

God called King David "a man after his own heart. He also considered David a man of war.
And the Biblical chronicles of King David apply to Hugo Chavez, George Bush, or Pat Robertson....how, exactly? I always took that these Old Testament chronicles are largely historical documents, dealing specifically with certain events and peoples, with a good lesson to be learned from them. I never took it (and I assume most rational people would agree) for marching orders for 21st Century Americans (are they all Christians?) to wipe out whatever leader or country stands in the way of its political objectives. Left to his own devices, Hugo Chavez is going to end up causing as much misery, death and distruction as Castro. We should "Pull the weed."

You speak the truth on that...
A LOT of photoshopping would be required to make his mug t-shirtable...

Who cares what liberals think about Christians??????? I care what liberals think about Christians. In the last four years I have converted four people from liberalism.
Think about it.
