hristian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club host Pat Robertson ... founder of the Christian Coalition of America has called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias.
In a direct transcript of his August 22 The 700 Club broadcast Robertson clearly says:
There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.
You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.
It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... this is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen.
We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly.
We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability.
We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.
He does have an M.Div. from New York Theological Seminary. However, I was arguing that this should not preclude him from political activism.
I would characterize his liquidation as For the Greater Good, similar to the long term benefits derived from the termination of Salvador Allende.
Failure to act swiftly and decisively could doom the people of Venezuela to 50 or more years of what the Cubans have been forced to live through for the past 50 years.
He is a member of 1st Baptist, Va. Beach, unless something has changed very recently.
Come on Mua, be honest here.
How long have you been holding on to that word, waiting to find a use for it in a post...
:)
You are right.!!!!!!!
Noting that the Italians had cheered on Catholic Italian troops tearing up comparable institutions in Ethiopia, I merely suggested this would have been done to the cheers of the Italian fascists and Italian communists if their prior behavior meant anything in particular.
The smear is of the Italian fascists and communists ~ if such a smear were possible.
Your response is rather like that of the commedic routine that ends "don't say nothin' 'bout the brother."
Better for you to read the logic than to search for insults.
Now, getting beyond the hypotheticals of church law, do you have a cite to any specific action taken at any time by any religious organization to disaffiliate Adolph Hitler? Doesn't mean they had to do so, just WAS IT DONE?
What part of this do you disagree with? Do you think it would be more Christian to launch an invasion if the removal of one man would be the lesser evil?
Would you consider it "un-Christian" to call for the assassination of Osama Bin Laden?
LOL
Wonderful. The report about Chavez killings I was given earlier described "thugs" who shot people in Caracas. In Kent State, we knew that the National Guard, a government entity, acted, and by their actions, killed citizens. I would say that makes the analogy I made earlier somewhat appropriate, no?
And as for "draftdodgers turning on the National Guard", I assume you don't mean me, as I am a 24 year old guy.
Thanks, and again I wait for a link and source to Chavez plotting Hitlerian genocide, as was oft-cited by people in this thread.
Thanks.
It wasn't long ago when assassination was an official doctrine of U.S. intelligence; what's so idiotic about calling for a legitimate means of force? Especially if it saves the lives of thousands...
There's always somebody new who needs to be informed of this classic Christian heresy.
I have a series of letters between myself and Senator Glenn concerning Antinomianism. The more Liberal Presbyterians are among its most vocal adherents ~ even if they never heard of it and can't spell it right.
There are. Just none I can see here that justify accusations of Christian hypocrisy.
What I can tell you is that Christ didn't have very much to say at all about politics. And despite how you'd like to use religion to pimp your foreign policy ideas, their is no religious objectives to be accomplished by assassinating Chavez.
How would you know?
I'm no fan of Pat Robertson. But I can find no basis for the holier than thou condemnations of his statement that I see on this board.
And again, those who believe Jesus is God incarnate, cannot separate Him from the OT God and make such across the board condemnations.
"a man of the cloth to be calling for an assassination is way off base."
My point exactly.
WHY?
Another attempt to "muscle" a Christian of his free speech??
Hmmmmm???
He just have to be careful with his statements, though i love it!
Show me where the New Testament advocates church leaders to call for assassination.
These men are supposed to lead by scriptural example, not their fleshly beliefs.
