hristian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club host Pat Robertson ... founder of the Christian Coalition of America has called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias.
In a direct transcript of his August 22 The 700 Club broadcast Robertson clearly says:
There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.
You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.
It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... this is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen.
We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly.
We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability.
We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.
He graduated from the Yale University Law School and the New York Theological Seminary, and briefly attended the University of London.
I thinking he is, though at present he's not involve in any church pastoral ministry.
He was also very much into a pre-Christian ethos, or what he thought was pre-Christian.
When did Robertson become a Southern Baptist?
you aren't going to win this argument factually anytime soon....
Yet have you ever wondered why Christ had never told Peter not to carry a sword prior to this.
Kill, not murder.
My Bible (NIV) says "You shall not murder."
It's pretty hard to make the case that the Bible proscribes all killing when, in the same part of the Bible, God orders the execution of people guilty of a range of crimes, and orders Israel to totally annihilate its enemies.
To set things straight re: Hitler and Religion-
Legend has it that Hitler was backed in his early political career by a group called the Thule Society. As I understand it, "Thule" is an Aryan version of Zion (as in Zionism.) Before those nasty Americans interfered in Germany's internal affairs, Herr Hitler was well on his way to creating a State Religion, with himself as both Head of State and High Priest. Read up on the goings-on at the SS Castle sometime.
Question: Is it a coincidence that the three groups most persecuted by the Nazis- Jews, Gypsies and Catholics- all had traditions of what could be called 'defense against the Dark Arts?'
Be aware there are variations in the spelling here, but the idea is that since grace is given by God on His own terms, ALL is forgiven!
The Antinomianists used to gather in the plaza in front of the Cathedral or other church and take off their clothes to show that "God Forgives". (They did this in an age when people thought God would strike you with a lightning bolt for doing something like that. Today the antinomianists claim people like Chavez are democratically elected civil saints. They dare you to take their clothes off.)
No coincidence at all. Hitler was a deeply superstitious pagan and that Thule Society nuttery is all the creepy proof one would need of that.
BTW, I was so happy to see the draftdodgers turn on the National Guard, and vice versa, I swore that in the future I'd make sure I voted only for politicians who were willing to fight our wars with National Guardsmen.
"W" gets my vote every time!
Well he certainly should have an opinion, just like you and me.
Pat Robertson has been a So Baptist for many many years.
While I am not in favor of assassination I am in favor of a use of force if necessary. Assassination smacks of thuggery; 5,000 Marines smacks of national resolve. That being said I am in favor of the priestly class advocating the warrior class take care of a possible threat. St. Bernard of Clairvaux comes to mind. It is good when our civilization moves as one i.e. the three orders being present and accounted for.
Via Con Dios!
This is not about agreeing or disagreeing on a public issue. This is about calling on the government to conduct state-sponsered assassination. As horrible as Chavez is, it's not appropriate for a man of the cloth to be calling for such a thing. If Pat Robertson were an intelligence agent or analyst, it would be different. But men of the cloth are about saving souls and ministering to troubled people. Robertson should know better.
