(Reverse Time Order — More Recent Entries Toward Top)

6:45 p.m.

Gene Ellis reporting for The Iconoclast

Regarding the condition of Cindy Sheehan's mother, there is guarded optimism. At this point, it seems that the stroke may not be as serious as was feared. Cindy is hoping to return on Sunday, but nothing is definite.

PEGGY WOLF OF DALLAS, sister of the founder of the Peace House, John Wolf, served food to the 200+ supporters in the new tent that has been erected at Camp #2. She stated that the food was available due to generous donations from supporters. Cindy wanted to make sure the protestors were taken care of. — Iconoclast Photo By Gene Ellis

FRIDAY, AUG. 19 was the first day the new tent was available to provide shade for Cindy Sheehan supporters. A meal was provided for supporters as well as entertainment on the newly built stage. Dr. Rev. Joe Lowery (who had worked with Dr. Martin Luther King) spoke at the rally. He encouraged the supporters to keep up their peaceful protest. — Iconoclast Photo By Gene Ellis

The original Camp Casey is not going to be dismantled. The Vets and certain other supporters are planning to remain in that location. Families, especially families with children will spend much of their time at the new camp that is in a field rather than in a ditch. Much emotion has been invested in the first Camp Casey, and many do not want to leave. A support group has been established there, and the same is expected to happen at the new camp.

Camp coordinator Ann Wright said, regarding the new location, "President Bush can't leave his ranch without passing one of the camps on the way out." Wright was in the military for 29 years and in the Foreign Service for another 16.

There are still unconfirmed rumors of the Sunday arrival of Joan Baez and other well-known actors and performers both tonight and Sunday. These celebrities who will be entertaining the Sheehan supporters do not want publicity, are giving their time to show their support and are there in solidarity. The general public is not encouraged to attend the entertainment portion of the weekend's events. It is believed that Steve Earl will perform tonight and possibly James McMurtry, either tonight or at some time on Sunday.

People are continuing to arrive at Camp Casey 2, where a large tent has been erected.

This reporter just finished conducting an interview with Ken Gordon, majority leader for the Colorado Senate.

Camp Casey coordinators reported that last night there were 63 cars and 63 tents parked in the ditch at the old campground. Currently at Camp Casey 2 there are about 250 people under or near the big tent, there is guitar music in the background, and it is fairly hot at the site.

When the media stops paying attention, when Bush goes back to Washinton, or in about 13 minutes, whichever is sooner.

I was so busy raising kids that I missed the hippy times. Maybe I might go play awhile before joining the adults. I sure as heck am not going to eat with um though.

Okay, if this is still going on next weekend, I think I'm driving up there. It's probably a three hour drive from here, but this is just too funny.
