Tony Snow is trying to make this story his own, big time. He had both Shaffer and Weldon on yesterday morning and has promised more. He also flat out stated that he was skeptical of the Pentagon mysteriously not being able to find the documents (though he hinted it wasn't the current Pentagon he blamed for their "disappearance"). He also made a very strong statement that there were other copies and implied that he knows where they are, or knows who knows.I'm calling him today. His show starts at 9.

LTC Shaffer is either a brave patriot or an shameless opportunist. I haven't decided which, although it could be both (Ollie North comes to mind). However, it is almost unheard of for military officers to go public with classified information under ANY circumstances. This raises a red flag in my mind about his motives. One could use the argument that "its in the public interest"--but realize thats the same one Ellsburg used with the Pentagon Papers. And who is to decide what is in the public interest or not--this is not the responsibility of the rank and file. It just doesn't wash.
