T.H. Tell the Truth, Mr. President, even though it hurts. (Mega-Barf Alert)
Lewiston Morning Tribune ^ | 8/16/05 | Tom Henderson

Posted on 08/16/2005 12:30:22 PM PDT by RadicalSon2

Be a good president and apologize to the nice lady.

Cindy Sheehan wants to know why her son died in Iraq. Tell her you made a mistake, Mr. President. Be honest.

Saddam Hussein really chaps your hide. You believed reports about weapons of mass destruction. It seemed so him.

You really, honestly thought he might use WMDs against Americans. You decided you'd better settle his hash once and for all. So you sent in soldiers like Cindy's son, Casey.

Eek. No weapons.

No problem. Saddam hated the United States. Everyone knew that. He no doubt provided sanctuary and support to kill-crazy lunatics who would attack Americans given half a chance.

So you gave them that chance.

At least Americans died Over There instead of Over Here. But what would the body count be -- here or there --if we decided not to give our enemies an easy target?

Likewise -- even on their best day -- Iraqis couldn't conquer America. So Casey Sheehan wasn't protecting American freedom or security.

What was he fighting for?

Oh, right, he was fighting for Iraqi freedom. Sure enough. We freed thousands of Iraqis. Of course, we killed thousands of others. Freedom isn't free. Between 23,589 and 26,705 Iraqi lives are a price we're willing to pay.

America cherishes human rights and liberty above all else. Tell that to the people of the Sudan -- while there still are any.

The war was a mistake, Mr. President. Just own up to it. We acted rashly on bad intelligence. Most civilized countries objected. Yet we let our anger get the better of us. Now more than 1,800 American soldiers -- including Casey Sheehan -- are dead.

Just explain this to Casey's mother and all those other people camped in front of your ranch. While you're at it, explain why we can't leave.

When you take over another country, you have an obligation to pick up after yourself. It's not about sending the wrong signal to our enemies. It's about basic decency to the people whose country we've devastated.

Naturally, Mr. President, you can't really say these things. You can't admit the war was a mistake. You can't admit we're staying to correct it.

You're the leader of the free world. You can't tell the truth -- even when it's obvious. -- T.H.

Be a good president and apologize to the nice lady.

Nice lady? I guess this guy hasn't bothered to read up on some of Sheehan's utterances - stuff that grossly disparages the United States and reeks of anti-Semetism.

Cindy Sheehan wants to know why her son died in Iraq.

Cindy Sheehan has said she would feel the same way if her son had died in Afghanistan instead of Iraq. So is Sheehan against the Iraq War? Or against ANY use of American military force to protect us? One would think the latter is the case.

So who is Bush supposed to apologize to? A hateful leftist who would rather this country be destroyed because she thinks it is evil? Methinks this writer owes his readers an apology, the more groveling, the better...

I don't remember if Henderson put out an article on this but his leftist views are insulting and extreme.

Lewiston would be a nice place again if Tom would take his catty talk about 200 miles further north.

President Bush has done nothing to apologize for in this case.

How anyone can think ridding the world of the Taliban in Afghanistan and Saddam in Iraq (both of which Cindy is against) and beginning the long, painful but necessary process of democratization in the Middle East is something to apologize for?

"America cherishes human rights and liberty above all else. Tell that to the people of the Sudan -- while there still are any."

There never has been, and never will be an actual shortage of people in Sudan. What IS going on there is Islamic tyrants clearing the land of black Christian and Animists so that Arabs can move in. Here in America they call it "eminent domain".

He died because a terrorist killed him.

Next question?

Many rabid FReepers think that beginning the long painful but necessary process of democratization in the Middle East is something to apologize for. They think we should cede to the Islamofascists a billion people worldwide and just declare war against Islam and nuke Mecca.

Maybe someone should enlighten TH about ((((((((resolution 1441))))))))) he has probably never heard of it. It is the reason and only reason we needed to go back to Iraq. Yes go back like in re-invade. These useful idiots think the war in iraq started when gw said we believe they have WMD'S in a speech. This war started many years ago and was never finished. Now we are gonna finish itand it aint becuase of WMD's. It's because of repeated violations of ((((((((((((((((((((resolution 1441)))))))))))))))))))) for 12 yrs.+. I wish more people in the media would remind these morons that the UN resolution didn't work on Saddam and that is why we are there. That is the only reason we need to be there.

That's the thing that drives me batty when I talk about this with liberal and liberaltarians--what exactly do they think will happen when we pull out of the Middle East now? The terrorists will just say "OK, that's over with"? And what exactly do they want us to do to fight terrorism?

Not one alternative plan has emerged from these people since 9-11 that has any detail or realism.

Henderson is right. Why does a peaceful nation with no imperialist aspirations spend more on weapons of mass destruction than the next 25 countries combined? More than number two by a factor of ten?

We are in Iraq because it has the second-largest proven oil reserves in the world; to pretend we are there to spread freedom and democracy is to spit on the graves of people like Casey Sheehan and in the faces of their families.
