Mickelson wins second major title [PGA Championship]

SPRINGFIELD, N.J. -- Phil Mickelson delivered another dramatic finish in a major on Monday, flopping a chip out of deep rough to 2 feet for a birdie on the final hole and a one-shot victory in the PGA Championship.

The putt wasn't nearly as long as his 18-footer to win the Masters last year, and there was no need to jump for joy this time.

Still, it was a sweet conclusion to a major championship season that had gone sour until he put together his best golf of the summer stretched over five days at Baltusrol by a storm-delayed final round.

It was the first Monday finish at the PGA Championship in 19 years. And not since 1986 at Inverness had a player from the last group won with a birdie on the 72nd hole at the final major.

Now there's a good thought. But I think McCord got banned from the Masters for being too colorful one year, IIRC.

THANKS!
Got any 'big smile' ones?
I know the guys and the serious golf purists hate this, but--
Tiger is a good-looking hunk!
Other golfers have had their female appreciators, I know. Tom Watson is STILL cute, so don't mind us girls if we pay less attention to the swing than the 'schwing'! LOL

I am a huge fan of Freddy Couples, this is why I am apprehensive about the picks. I remember 96 very well.!

Whoops!
Sorry to assume you're a female Tigerholic. If you're male and posted because you appreciate the wife- thanks anyway!

Now, I've never seen him curse on TV- if he does,in front of kids in the gallery, that's uncalled for.

He did it at Pebble Beach when he won the U.S. Open by ten strokes. He missed a fairway and dropped a couple of beauts right next to NBC's tee box microphone.

I can understand being passionate. But I've never cared for Tiger's mouth. I'm sure other golfers get upset (ever watch Craig Stadler on the Champions Tour? There's a guy who looks like he doesn't enjoy what he does for a living!) but few are as blatant as Tiger when things go wrong.

Only real Dem out there is Scott Simpson...the scumbag.

Simpson is religious, though. The snowboarding, headcase, and badly slumping David Duval is another Democrat. Tom Watson was a big time Lefty when he came out on tour, but is a big time conservative now.

Never mind that, how did Tiger do? Where did he wind up on the leader board? Where did Tiger have breakfast this morning?

No S. Stop and think: what other player, tied for 26th on Saturday, would get THAT much attention? Geez, when CBS wasn't covering Tiger they branched out to puff pieces about former major wins. While the top six were on the course.

Hey CBS! Think you could squeeze in some coverage of the top 6 contendors, in between your two day Tiger Wood worship session?

Just remember... they call it "golf" because all the other four-letter words were taken.

Stadler-- that the rather round guy who sweats a lot? A few golfers seem cranky.
Now, going back to the oldsters my dad used to watch- I was always partial to the one who wore the wild get-ups, plaid pants, etc. Was that Fuzzy Zoeller? I loved that guy. Kinda cute, cheerful- and you have to love a grown man called Fuzzy.
There were some characters in the older set. Not many nowadays that I can see.
Wouldn't mind seeing an all-kilts tournament either! :-D

This is true. When I'm on the course I just remind people what golf spells backwards.

I'll take Johnny Miller over Lanny Wadkins everyday of the week.

I'll swap ya there. Lanny does engages in meaningless babble, but he also makes good points. OTOH, Miller chronically denigrates the players to no useful purpose. It's disgusting. Miller has a problem that he and the network are happy to share with all of us poor captives: his eight-track tapes of useless criticism played over and over, as Publius Valerius mentioned.

Hey, the guy has vertigo. Give him a break: how would you play if you were suddenly overcome with serious dizzy spells during which you could hardly stand and then after being nauseous and lightheaded for hours?

I think you're talking about the late, great Payne Stewart with his plus-fours. Jesper Parnevik is perhaps the worst dresser I have ever seen but he's fun to watch on the course.

An all-kilt tournament, huh? There are a few rotund guys on tour who might change your mind. :)

Oh, yes, lol, for luck. But they mention it anyway every time he plays on a Sunday because, you know, there might be someone out there who still doesn't know. And sometimes they mention his outfits the other days as well.

Nicklaus desiged tournament courses that favored his style of play. Fans kicked Palmer's ball out of the rough. It's good to be the king.
