I'm going to disagree with the group here and say that what you did was wrong. Based on your other post, you were at a Catholic Church and thus you turned your back not just on the pastor but also on the Holy Eucharist. Priests come and go and if you get a good one who speak sense from the pulpit, you are truly blessed; but Catholics don't - or shouldn't - go to Mass for the sermon alone.

You may want to rethink your membership in that community, but to leave in the middle of mass because of something said at the pulpit is disrepectful to everyone. If the pastor had spoken something heretical I would agree with you, but a homily containing something misguided and stupid is nothing new.

What if the priest would have said something even more disrespectful? What if he would have talked about the joys of child molestations or something else?

I have to respectfully disagree, though I see your point.
But I believe that if the pastor's sermon has become
an occasion of sin for me, it is appropriate to leave.
It is more disrespectful to the Lord to be steaming in
anger in church than to quietly leave.

Oh my word. You are trying to lay a guilt on Chi-townChief?

He is insulted by the priest, and hmmm...interesting.. you think he should have continued to honor the service with his presence.

Do you think Episcopalians and Anglicans leaving the Gay Church should just stay too? Or would that be "dishonoring" the service? lol.

Chi-townChief did no such thing as you suggest
