I think #44 needs to be clarified. While Springfield is not exactly conservative, it would appear so compared to nearby Amherst/Northampton, home to UMASS and Smith College (and the other three colleges in the area).
The level of liberal infestation is at pandemic levels there.
I guess they were doing the biggest cities in the area, but even then, as a person who has lived in both areas, Amherst/Northampton could easily bump Boston from its lofty position.
Hell, the Pioneer Valley could bump Ithaca, Yellow Springs, Berkeley and Madison.
I worked in Amherst from 1988-1991. No wonder I drank.
I went to UMASS and remember North Hampton very well. It's freak central there. A pizza joint in Amherst had a framed National Enquirer front page up on their wall, The headline was about North Hampton. It was titled "Strange town where men aren't wanted".
