van der Straaten is jorans godfather. Joran was born 18 years ago IN HOLLAND.....Godparents are named at/before birth. Joran has lived his entire life except the first 2 years in aruba. At some point along the way, van der Straaten was occupationally subordinate to PVDS in whatever PVDS official capacity was at the time.

Therefore, the close relationship and interworkings of the van der Straaten / van der Sloot go back at least 18 years and began in Holland......perhaps even to the point that VDS and van der Straaten have been close since they were teenagers themselves.

This relationship warrants very close scrutiny!

Hi, Vn_survivor_67-68, most Godparents are named at/before birth but if Joran's baptism was as a toddler or older (rather than shortly after birth), that could skew the timeline.

Anita has interest in Buddhism now;are we sure van der Straaten has a relationship going back to Joran's birth? Van der Sloots could have given Joran an infant baptism but it could also be later, depending on their inclinations. Also, are we sure they mean godfather as in a religious sense or as in a "Don Corleone/Marlon Brando" sense?
