Fortunately the voters rejected the lunatic fringe candidate and detente lead to peaceful coexistence with the USSR. Oops, wait, the voters, they elected the "lunatic fringe" candidate, but he started a nuclear war. Oops, no, the RINO's convinced him to sell out the people who voted for him and adopt detente, and there was peace with the Soviet Union.
