Not So Anti-American

The American dream is still very much alive. For countless human beings around the world, the United States remains the shining city on a hill.
We forget how blessed we are. Having seen bitter poverty, disease, miserable corruption and life reduced to the most basic needs, I find it increasingly hard to put up with complaints about our country from spoiled professors and actors grown rich in a society they disdain (it makes me want to add a personal touch to their lattes). Even conservatives often underestimate the transformative genius of America and the power of our ideas.
We live in the one country on earth where pessimism is never warranted.
I've spent a month in a different part of Africa each of the last three years. And I've met one truly ferocious anti-American on that continent. She was an absolute nut-case who reminded me of those domestic leftists who blame America for their self-wrought misfortunes and personal discontents.
On the other hand, I've been taken aback by African fury toward "imperialist" Arabs and militant Islam. Nashville at its most patriotic has nothing on one educated Kenyan who all but volunteered to swim to Pakistan and kill Osama bin Laden single-handedly.

Thank God for our alternative media and reporters like Ralph Peters of the NY Post. The main stream media in this country repeatedly represents itself propgandist liars.

But the Democrats don't believe in American e-x-c-e-p-t-i-o-n-a-l-i-s-m. They don't believe our country is unique, blessed and special and is an example to the rest of the world. You'd never know it but from their rhetoric and that of their MSM enablers, the message is America is no good, America is the fount of all evil, America can never do anything right. And they wonder why they aren't winning elections. Gee, ya thunk? With a message like that, I wouldn't want to vote for a party that doesn't think the world of America and her place on the planet.

The cat is slowly making its way out of the bag and when it does the MSM is finished. Their lies have cost them advertising and readership already but when the entire country wakes up and realizes they're being lied to it could be dramatic. Their lies also cost lives of our soldiers and their biased polls continually try to throw water on everything from the war to the economy.

Thanks, I registered but a lot of people don't like to sign up just to read an article.
Thanks again.

We forget how blessed we are. Having seen bitter poverty, disease, miserable corruption and life reduced to the most basic needsHow true this is and we're giving it away. Just ask any illegal alien. E.D. on Fox this morning did a segment on banks giving home loans to illegals. You know, those poor folks who are doing the jobs no American would. Only thing the guy she spoke about had been at the same furniture company in CA for 14 years (let's repeat that - 14 years!) and was able to afford a $210,000 home.

Agreed, but I think the Ralph Peters was just pointing out that the average person outside the U.S. doesn't hate us like the MSM reports, just the radicals. Most still see us as the greatest place in the world to live.

I am against banks giving home loans to illegals. At what point did someone start that ball rolling?
Illegal is illegal and it should not be rewarded under any circumstance.

It's tempting to let this run on to our immigration debacle...in which the MSM has played a gruesome role.
Let's hold that one for deserrt.
Giving Peters his due should flood this thread with apt and cogent comment.
Timely, apt, confident and enormously welcome thought.

Your right, they're separate yet related issues. One being the dream of coming to America and the other being the process which must be followed in doing so.
I think the immigration issue can become confused for some in understanding exactly what the real issue is about. We want to control who enters and how in order to protect our economy and the safety of legal citizens of this country.
