Wow.
I'll never get tired of the view of Earth from the ISS...no matter how old I get.

Glade.net, way out in the sticks. The load is really fast, even though I'm only at 26.4...

I'll never get tired of the view of Earth from the ISS...no matter how old I get. Me either. According to the track, they're going over Iran right now. Maybe one of them can drop a penny from there and hit a Mullah.

When we visited JSC on June 30, they were running STS-114 simulations:
Picture of Shuttle Mission Control screens
I remember the left screen was described as being for computer commands, ie. status of commands given by the ground to the orbiter autopilot system and other systems on the shuttle.

Good strategic thinking of someone long ago to base the Space Shuttle in a place that gets more rainy days than 80%+ of America.... The West Coast was already top-heavy with defense contractors at the time. Seemed like the way to go.
actually, the determinants were to minimize launches over populated areas in the US and Canada. Most launches are north, and east of north, somewhat.
By sheer coincidence, that is also the direction of earth rotation...

This thread has been wonderful!!! Yes, it is! I can monitor this thread and then sprint to the nearest TV when the time comes.
This is great for the "office bound" folks. (Judging by the time in the U.S., I may be alone in that designation...LOL)
