When do they make the final decision that landing will be Florida? It's already been made. And there are no plans for an alternate landing at Edwards AFB.

That's what I've heard - no distractions from other sources - easier to land at night. I understand there may be some rain near Edwards AFB : (

Thanks for the reply - I must have missed that.

Having heard the explosion that ripped the Columbia apart above the skies of Texas What a horrible memory that must be. A terrible event to have bared witness.

The running gag among veteran astronauts with first-timers is to remark (and I quote) "you're pissing out your bones" when they urinate.
Kidney and bladder stones tend to be an issue over time due to decalcification of bone mass. Something about prolonged microgravity tells our body to stop retaining calcium in the skeletal.

The feed is working fine now by going right to
Nasa TV directly. I was trying to get through nasa.gov earlier and it was too busy.

Unfortunately, that makes sense. Would imagine there is some muscle wasting as well, although the bone loss appears to be more significant.

Prayers for a safe landing.

Would imagine there is some muscle wasting as well There is natural atrophy, but a lot of it is offset by regular resistance workout training. The worst part is how all fluids in the body redistribute. Imagine your head getting all the fluid that just left your legs.
Unpleasant? Uh-huh.

Closely watching a low cloud area for visibility.
Time for go/no go is about 1/2 hr. away .. normally 20 mins. ahead of that engine firing. All systems continue to operate well.

How long before they can't take a pass on this landing opportunity and try the later one?

Discovery: Eileen - with few exceptions, completed checklist .. in the entry checklist, page 3-5.
Weather update: the instability continues in the local area .. first opportunity is broken at 1,000 .. it's essentially unstable .. continue with entry checklist .. page 3-11 before they make firm decision.
