Could have been worse. Remember Reagan's passing on DU?

They are truly hateful scum.

I'm sad to see him go... Rest in peace, Peter Jennings, and may God comfort your family in their grief.

I love your tagline!

I don't know why we can't make better progress against cancer. Maybe all the funds spent on frills like the space program should be used to concentrate on beating this horrible disease!

Many dozen women!

Who wouldda thunk it of Jennings, who appeared so prim and proper, with that thin-lipped smile and doughty presentation?

Please, although we may harbor personal feelings on his politics..... this is not the time.

I must say that of all the three network anchors, I liked Jennings the best. My prayers go out to his family.

And I would like to also add that I think that some of the comments being made about Jennings political leanings are disgusting and in the worst possible taste. I remember the same thing happening last fall when Christopher Reeve died. If someone is going to disparage someone who died simply because they disagreed with them, then I have serious reservations about everything else these people say or do. Nothing can be accomplished by insulting the reputation of a man who (whether we agreed with him or not) was still liked and admired by millions. The left did the same thing when President Reagan died, but the fact that the left will act in this despicable manner doesn't mean that we should.

IMO, many people who die of "lung cancer" do not know where the cancer originated. Cancer, many times, originates elsewhere and metastasizes to the lungs where it "kills." Lung Cancer is the #1 killer of cancer. It's almost sure death except in the very early stages.

A close family member died of lung cancer a few years ago. She never smoked and was a physical fitness nut. However, the origin of her cancer was never found.

Interesting "vid" that was found using Yahoo Vid Search....

Just the first 30 seconds or so..... He is speaking of life expectancy....

Sometimes people put to much faith in medical technology, instead of using a little common sense.

....Burning objects probably should not be inhaled directly into your lungs over 40 years time......

I was very pleased to see the amount of compassion displayed on this site for Peter Jennings, despite the sincere and stout opposition to his political position and what he did. I noticed you two, and others, had made commments to the effect of, "WE are not DU; this isn't the place for it."

I'd never really looked at the DU site in depth before, and decided to try to search their site for similar threads on the death of Pope JOhn Paul II, or Ronald Reagan, or some other conservative, and see what the response was of people over there. I was going to copy and paste the threads, and e-mail them to a liberal friend of mine, to contrast it for him, and see what his response was.

I couldnt' find anything; do you, or anyone on this thread, know how I could find any "liberal" Freerepublic-esque type sites that have liberal responses to news accounts of deaths of conservatives recently? Thanks ahead of time.

R.I.P. Mr. Jennings. He was a familiar face on the news of the old school type. You never saw him in one of those casual morning news chatty talking head threesomes so popular nowadays.

Peter Jennings on 9/11 and Peter Jennings in 1994, the night of the Republican Revolution, are what stick out in my mind regarding PJ. When he said the voters were having a "temper tantrum," I could not believe it. I was in my early 20s then, and I was not as cynical about the news media.

I do not wish lung cancer on anyone in America, but I can't get the phrase "Lettuce Roll" out of my head.

"IMO, many people who die of "lung cancer" do not know where the cancer originated."

- I agree with your observation. The anti smoking lobby have been so successful in linking the two that no self respecting MSM journalist would dream of challenging the accepted wisdom by doing a little independent research into the matter.
It's not that I don't think that smoking to excess is not harmful - it's just that I think it's dangers, when used in moderation, have been blown out of proportion by interest groups who long to dictate and control how other people live their lives. It gives them a feeling of power and smug satisfaction to force others to knuckle under to their demands.

Wow. Count me among the people who didn't even know he was sick until yesterday. I've had a hiatus of a decade or so from mainstream network news. It's nice to see all the classy posts regarding this. RIP Mr. Jennings.
