I don't have a firm opinion on the plane crash, there is enough to make me think of terrorism.

Last news said 45 kids.

Has anyone heard what countries the passengers were from?

There is a heavy Israel alert, remember the tourist ships?

On the big thread, there was a poster that remarked on the holes that were found drilled in the bathroom wall/into the cockpit? I assume to be used for this very type of accident.

I have already found a communist report that says the military shot the plane down, to protect a U.S. Ship in the area.......more commie/muslim working together, against us.

If that plane was full of folks from Israel or the U.S., then my vote is for terrorism.

I heard on the Pennsylvania plane crash that it ran out of
gas, wasn't it taking off.

Centennial has had another accident saturday night, near
Denver, a Cessna, from Littleton Colorado.

The airport manager, said that just because there had been 4 accidents at Centennial since December, there is no reason to think it is an unsafe airport.

Ok, I will accept that, if they let me do the check up on all the mechanics.

The new crash was on the KOA news from Denver, as I typed it.

If i stay up late, will check it again, but for the next 3 hours, it is Dr. Bill on KGO radio.

Are we going to have a flurry of bad gas in airplanes.

Now when I listen to the KGO traffic report, I listen carefully, as about a month ago, the 'sweet young thing' gave the entire traffic report including:

"On ____freeway, be careful of the naked man, who is walking on the right shoulder of the freeway."

I was proud of her, she did not change her voice, it was just 'another traffic warning'.......LOL

The passengers were mostly Greek.

It is said the pilot was not in the cabin.
Where would the pilot go during a crisis?

My first thought when I heard it, was remembering back to the reports we saw here on TM about someone trying to drill through the lavatory door of a plane to possibly put a disabling chemical into the cockpit.

LOL at the traffic reporter not doubling over with laughter at her report.
So ok, if it was depressurization...how does a plane become depressurized?

If the pilot wasn't in the cockpit and the co-pilot was blue and unconscious, why did the fighter pilots see people trying to enter the cockpit? why weren't they disabled?

Too many questions...

Too many plane crashes.

I'd check the mechanics too.

And what was put in the cargo hold.

Wanted: Aspiring martyrs
By Sudha Ramachandran

BANGALORE - Recruitment of potential suicide bombers, which has
generally been shrouded in silence and secrecy, appears to be going more
public. An Iranian publication recently carried an advertisement calling for
applications from aspiring "martyrdom seekers".

The advertisement calls for men and women to enlist with the "Lovers of
Martyrdom Garrison" and promises those who are picked that they will be
given "specific and specialized training". The aim it seems is "to achieve
all-round readiness against the enemies of Islam and the sacred Islamic republic
and to protect the foundations of Islam". To this end, "a martyrdom-seeking
division" would be set up for each province in the country.

All that aspiring candidates to the "Lovers of Martyrdom Garrison" need to
submit are two photographs of themselves, a copy of their identity cards, and a
filled-in application form. The advertisement even provides an address – PO
Box 16535-664, Tehran – where aspiring candidates to the "Lovers of
Martyrdom Garrison" should forward their application forms.

The publication in which the advertisement appeared is one that is produced
by an institute run by one of Iran's most conservative and radical clerics,
Ayatollah Mazbah Yazdi, believed to be a spiritual advisor of Iran's new
president, Mahmud Ahmedinejad, who, like its proponents, has described
suicide operations or "martyrdom operations" in glowing terms. In a speech
delivered some days after his election and broadcast on Iranian television,
Ahmedinejad said: "Is there art that is more beautiful, more divine and more
eternal than the art of martyrdom? A nation with martyrdom knows no
captivity. Those who wish to undermine this principle undermine the
foundations of our independence and national security. They undermine the
foundation of our eternity."

This is not the first time that recruitment of volunteers for suicide operations
has been done publicly and application forms for registration of aspiring
bombers distributed openly in Iran. A year ago, tens of thousands of
registration forms were distributed at local Islamic universities to aspiring
martyrdom seekers. This distribution of registration forms was preceded by
speeches in mosques where calls were made to young men and women to
register.

The application form for "Preliminary Registration for Martyrdom
Operations" requires the applicant to provide name, age, address and contact
details. It also requires the applicant to affirm his "preparedness for carrying
out martyrdom operations" and gives a choice of three targets: "occupiers of
the Islamic holy sites" (referring to the US occupation of Najaf, Karbala and
other places in Iraq), "occupiers of Jerusalem" (referring to Israel), and Salman
Rushdie, the author of Satanic Verses against whom Ayatollah Ruhollah
Khomeini issued a fatwa or legal judgment for death in 1989.

The public enlistment of "martyrdom seekers" in Iran has drawn considerable
media attention. But such public enlistment of suicide bombers is not exclusive
to Iran. Militant organizations in other parts of the world extol martyrdom and
publicly solicit suicide bombers.

Catching Tigers
This is the case with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the
world-leader in suicide bombing. The martyrs' cult is very strong in the LTTE.
The honoring of Tiger martyrs - martyrs are described in LTTE propaganda as
gods to be worshipped - is an extremely effective recruiting tool. While fighters
are recruited all year round, enlistment shoots up during Martyrs' Week (
November 21-27) when the LTTE publicly honors its dead fighters, especially
those killed in suicide operations. Through songs and speeches, Tamil boys and
girls are called on to sacrifice their lives for the cause of the Tamil homeland and
many, moved by the propaganda, enlist.

But those who are recruited from the general public are taken on as fighters.
Some might aspire to be suicide bombers, which would qualify them for the top
rungs of the LTTE's martyr hierarchy, but suicide bombers are not directly
recruited from the public.

The LTTE has a separate suicide squad called the Karum Puligal or Black
Tigers. According to a source in the Research and Analysis Wing of India's
external intelligence agency, Black Tigers are recruited from among the LTTE's
fighters. These are boys and girls who have already shown extraordinary
commitment to the LTTE. The LTTE is extremely selective in recruiting
members for suicide operations. "Suicide operations especially against
high-profile targets are planned and put into effect with utmost secrecy," the
source said. "The identity of future suicide bombers cannot be revealed. This is
essential for the success of an operation."

So the LTTE motivates and glorifies martyrdom, especially that which comes
from suicide operations in public. It even recruits its ordinary fighters in public.
But the recruitment of suicide bombers is a highly secretive process.

Similar is the case with Hamas and Islamic Jihad (IJ), which celebrate
martyrdom in public to draw in more members. Funerals are occasions for these
groups not only to deliver speeches on martyrdom but also to recruit.
However, enlistment of suicide bombers or their registration is not done in
public. What sets apart the recruiting style of Hamas and IJ from an
organization like the LTTE is that in the former, functionaries approach
individuals who are not always already members of these groups to carry out
suicide operations.

In the case of Iran, it is unlikely that those who registered to become martyrs in
response to the advertisement will actually be sent on suicide operations,
especially against high-profile targets. The advertisement and application forms
should be seen as a propaganda exercise to signal that ordinary Iranian men and
women are willing to blow themselves up for a cause. The public registration of
these aspiring suicide bombers signals that they are willing to take the risks that
come with revealing their identity as potential suicide bombers.

While it is unlikely that those who responded to the advertisement and signed
on as martyrdom seekers - tens of thousands are said to have signed up - will
be dispatched on individual suicide missions, the possibility that some of them
at least will figure in operations to defend cities should the United States attack
Iran cannot be ruled out.

The value of the public recruitment of suicide bombers is not so much to enlist
volunteers as it is a means to send a message to potential occupiers of what lies
ahead.

GERMANY:

Four Alleged Terrorism Suspects Arrested

Prosecutors said on Thursday that authorities have arrested four
suspected terrorists with ties to Usama bin Laden and seized
weapons and explosives during a search of two Frankfurt
apartments. The four were arrested Tuesday on charges of
belonging to a criminal organization, arms and explosives
violations and falsifying documents.

During a subsequent search of two apartments on Wednesday,
authorities seized 44 pounds of a chemical prosecutors said can be
used to manufacture explosives, as well as homemade detonators,
a hand grenade, sub-machine guns, dismantled rifles, revolvers
and ammunition. All four suspects were living under assumed
names, and prosecutors said their true identities were not yet
known. Their documents identified them as Ayoubi B. of Algeria,
Hisham E. and Lamin M. of Iraq and Fouad S. of France.

Prosecutors said they were part of an international network
trained by bin Laden's followers in Afghanistan, and that they set
up logistics in Germany to support attacks on the "enemies of
Islam." No evidence linking them to any actual or planned attack
was found.

`Poison' messages of Islamic anger possible hints
to bomber recruitment

By BRIAN MURPHY
AP Religion Writer

LEEDS, England (AP) -- Amear Ali remembers how the film images
clicked by in rapid-fire sequence to a soundtrack of pounding drums:
dead Iraqi children, Palestinians under siege, Guantanamo prisoners,
snippets of President Bush repeating the word "crusade."

"You could see how it could turn someone to raw hate," said Ali,
recalling his brush last year with the hard-edged marketing of
extremism at an Islamic bookstore operated by his brother-in-law.

"It even started working on me. Then I said to myself, 'Get out. This
stuff is poison.' "

The shop was drawn deeper Saturday into the international
investigation of the July 7 London bombings, and Ali's introductions
into the militant messages could help explain the possible
recruitment tactics used in the neighborhood where the suicide
mission apparently took shape.

Attempts to discern the motives and mind-set of the suspected
bombers remain among the murkiest parts of the probe. But Ali -- a
36-year-old father of four boys -- claims hardline Islamists had been
quietly making contacts and spreading propaganda for years in the
Beeston area, a hillock of one-room stores and red brick row houses
dominated by families with roots in Pakistan.

Three of the four alleged bombers came from this seesaw world:
born in Britain but influenced by the values and traditions of a
motherland they barely know; watching new skyscrapers rise in
central Leeds but feeling excluded from the opportunities in this
former mill town.

"So someone comes along and says, 'Muslim are oppressed, Muslims
are being killed by the West,' and so on," said Ali, whose late father
emigrated to Britain from Pakistan. "For some young lads who are
confused and feel alienated, it's a powerful thing to hear. If it
happened with young Muslims here, it's happening everywhere."

Ali said he first noticed outsiders coming into Beeston in the late
1990s speaking about Muslim causes and identity. He said they were
always well-spoken, fluent in English and often dressed in the
traditional shalwar kameez, a loose tunic-and-trouser outfit common
in Pakistan and across South Asia.

Ali said the men were always vague about their affiliations -- never
mentioning al-Qaida or any of the Muslim groups in Britain -- and
first offered only generalities about the importance of prayer and
following Islamic codes.

"We used to joke that they were like the Muslim version of the
Mormons or born-again Christians," said Ali. "They would ask if
anyone wanted to attend lectures or just talk further. A few would
go, but we didn't pay them much attention."

It began to change shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. His
sister's husband, Mohammad Tafazil, 38, opened a corner bookshop
with the idea of offering an alternative for young Muslims who were
drifting into drug use and a gang culture, said Ali.

Gradually, Tafazil became more radicalized and aloof from his old
Western-oriented crowd, said Ali. He grew a beard, became
estranged from his wife and began allowing visiting Muslim speakers
to use the shop -- the Iqra Learning Center -- for gatherings. The
shelves increasingly included videos, DVDs and books outlining
conspiracies against Muslims and denouncing the West.

"I remember telling him once, 'This kind of stuff may get you in
trouble if the police see it,' " said Ali. "He told me that I was weak."

Ali said Tafazil also had some financial links to a storefront site
known as the Hamara Youth Access Point, where the suspected
bombers also were known to meet.

Both the bookstore and youth site have been searched and sealed by
police.

"They were always talking about the same thing: how the West is
out to destroy Islam," said Ali.

Among those who became part of the shop's inner circle was
Shahzad Tanweer, 22, one of the suspected London bombers, said
Ali. Another suspected attacker, 30-year-old Mohammad Sidique
Khan, reportedly used the two sites for diatribes against U.S. and
British foreign policies.

It's unclear what -- if any -- connections were made by the bombers
to wider terrorist networks. But senior Pakistani intelligence officials
said authorities were looking into a possible links between Tanweer
and two al-Qaida-linked militant groups.

On Saturday, meanwhile, police intensified their search of the
street-level bookstore. Investigators wearing white protective suits
also were seen on second floor, but it was unclear whether it was a
residence or part of the bookshop operations. Police covered the
shop windows with gray plastic sheeting and the immediate area was
cordoned off.

Tafazil was not at his home or answering his cell phone on Saturday.
In London, the Metropolitan Police said he was not the one
unidentified person from the Leeds area who was being questioned
in the British capital about the terrorist attacks. But police declined
to say whether Tafazil was being held in Britain for any other reason.

Ali said he was approached by Tafazil last year for discussions about
Islam. At first, Ali said he received instructions on proper Muslim
prayers, which he never learned when younger. Then came lectures
about injustices to Muslims around the world. Finally, on the day Ali
and his family returned from their father's funeral, Ali said Tafazil
played him a DVD on a laptop computer.

"It started off with scenes of Muslims being killed or persecuted:
Iraq, Palestinians, Chechnya. It had Bush saying the word `crusade.'
It was slick and really made you feel angry," said Ali. "I know it was
propaganda and was made to make you feel this way. But what
about young guys who see this material as a call to do something?

"I'm convinced something like this was the first step for the
bombers."

The families of Khan and the third suspected bomber from Leeds,
Hasid Hussain -- the 18-year-old believed to have blown up the
double-decker bus -- condemned the attacks and claimed they had
no idea what they were planning.

Khan's family insisted he must have been "brainwashed" and urged
all efforts to "expose the terror networks which target and groom our
sons to carry out such evils."

eadly terrorist bombing recounted in former professor's trial
an Associated Press report 08/15/05

http://www.abcactionnews.com/stories/2005/08/050815alarian.shtml

TAMPA - Gruesome eyewitness testimony about a 1995 double suicide
bombing in Israel took center stage Monday in the federal trial of a former
Tampa college professor accused of being a key player in the notorious
Palestinian terrorist group that claimed responsibility.

An Israeli police officer who witnessed the blasts testified that he
heard an explosion among a crowd of people waiting for buses at Beit Lid
Junction, then heard another one shortly afterward that came as
rescuers were trying to help victims.

Yuval Avargil, an intelligence officer with the Israeli national
police, described a horrific scene, in which twisted bodies lay in puddles of
blood and the sky rained body parts at the busy junction between Tel
Aviv and Haifa.

"I opened my eyes, I heard something rolling near me, I saw a head of a
soldier with his eyes open on the side," he said.

Prosecutors say that Sami Al-Arian, a former University of South
Florida professor, and three other defendants on trial raised money and
supported the deadly mission of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, a terrorist
group blamed for more than 100 deaths, including 22 at Beit Lid on Jan.
22, 1995.

Last week an FBI agent testified that less than three weeks after the
Beit Lid bombing, Al-Arian, in a letter to a Kuwaiti legislator,
referred to it as "the latest operation, carried out by the two mujahideen
(holy warriors) who were martyred for the sake of God." Prosecutors say
the letter sought money for the families of the suicide bombers.

Before and during Avargil's testimony, defense attorneys objected on
grounds that its graphic nature would be inflammatory and prejudicial.
The judge allowed some graphic testimony from Avargil, but ruled that the
prosecution should limit graphic descriptions from other witnesses.
