Main Entry: in·cred·i·ble
Pronunciation: (")in-'kre-d&-b&l
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English, from Latin incredibilis, from in- + credibilis credible
: too extraordinary and improbable to be believed; also : hard to believe
"Interestingly, Christians as a whole were not offended by Jews feeling this way."
So why should 'secular Jewish' (someone else's words, not mine) Hollywood give a damn about offending Christians?
"Unlike the Dan Brown-o-philes here. You folks are just plain angry that anyone questions his motives."
don't direct that at me! I read the book, found it weak, and won't be watching the movie. My intelligence was more offended than my faith.
That's interesting, because I have heard some gush that it is a wonderful page-turner and one of the finest books they have read; and others who say it isn't very good at all.
"The difference is that The Passion of The Christ is a movie based on facts from the bible which does not slander the Jews."
Not according to the half-dozen Jewish golfer friends of mine.
I don't see how this book can be taken so seriously. It's NOT a well-written book.
And someday you can learn to write coherent English sentences, but I'm not holding out much hope.
In fact, I haven't read TDVC, but I did read Holy Blood, Holy Grail, the book that gave Brown his central mythology, which was presented entirely as fact.
The problem with TDVC is that at least half the people who read it seem to think the Holy Blood mythology is factual, or at least has some basis in fact. That's the whole problem, and as far as I've seen Brown isn't quick to dissaude people of that belief.
Oh, puh-lease. What about other books, like 'Mein Kampf' or 'Dianetics'? They've been read by dummies who follow them as truths. They remain published and purchased. And a danger to some who may choose to believe the idiocy therein. But burn? It's outrageous to even suggest that about me. No, I don't advocate that. Neither do you, I suspect. But just as they pose a 'danger' to some, so, too, does Brown's book.
Six is mine, but i'll let you have "Five" if you want... http://www.madcomics.de/tripping/18/money02.jpg
Ironically, hineybona's final post before getting banned was his least incendiary in this thread.
As I understand it, the original hoax was perpetrated by a guy named La Plante. He forged documents and -- appropriately enough -- planted them in certain European archives where his partners in the hoax pretended to find them. Even though it is now known that the documents aren't real, many people continue to think there's some basis for the stories.
Other people seem to have found Da Vinci Code a good read. I thought it was very amateurishly written and boring.
I am having the best day ever! And you?
The Salacious Ping List is for stories that appeal to the raunchy-minded among us. Shall I put you on it?
yes, it is fiction and it is a poorly written mystery novel- chock full of errors. i dont begrudge anyone their entertainment- heck there are even people who like the jerry springer show.. i have no problem with that. ;]
hey- i am a grown up and i have lots of issues with the book- none of which have to do with religion. i don't care how many people line up to say it was a great book, i just did not see it as such. i won't go to see the movie- but i don't see many movies anyway.
The vast majority do but there are exceptions. I organized a homeschool literature course for middle grades only to have a couple parents nix Narnia for their children. They don't allow any books with witches or fantasy of any kind.
Allegory was not a word in their vocabulary and I doubt their children have much imagination
.
Are you drunk or simply posting to the wrong FReeper?
I guess you missed the fact that I used the term 'fictional story' in reference to Dan Browns' book "The Da Vinci Code'. Get new glasses.
No thanks.
But I love those pictures of you.
Didn't Rushdie earn a fatwah for that? CAIRless would go bonkers.
They banned the guy.... the name calling and ALL THAT.
