...the decisions, and irresponsibility of the dog's too-often reckless, give-s-sh!t owners. Precisely, and those owners should be held responsible.
Those people will never get over what happened to this child, and the dog should be destroyed, BUT you can't blame every Rott or Pit for this.
There are 10's of thousands of these dogs around, and we get a few bad ones. Yes, they are bad. Yes, they can do the damage. Yes, there are creeps that keep these dogs for this very reason.
You can't judge every dog in the breed by these dogs. There are plenty of good dog breeders, who breed for good dispositions, and screen the owners that these dogs go to because they DO need a firm hand.
Banning certain breeds of dogs is not the answer. Just as banning guns is not the answer. These dogs would not kill if they were owned by people who were responsible.

Really? Am I and/or my little children in danger of some gun determining on its own to attack and kill my child, without the aid of a shooter. Have guns changed since I bought my last? Have I missed the moment at which they suddenly grew legs and were able to propel themselves into position to fire on people without warning?
Last time I checked there wasn't a single gun on earth that could determine on its own to attack and kill someone without the manipulation of a person.
When guns start randomly wandering into driveways and shooting little kids while they're in the arms of their mothers, I'll entertain such ridiculous comparisons.
