Dog Rips Child From Mother Arms (Rottweiller Kills Girl)

Dog Rips Child From Mother Arms

GLENDALE — A Rottweiller ripped a toddler out of her mother's arms in Glendale, dragged the child up a driveway and mauled her to death, police said today.

The dog, which belongs to the victim's grandparents, pulled the child from her mother's arms about 7 last night in the 2300 block of Via Saldivar, said Sherri Servillo, a Glendale Police Department spokeswoman.

The infant was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Servillo said.

The woman was housesitting for the child's grandparents, Servillo said, adding authorities received a "hysterical 911 call" after the attack.

The dog is being held by Pasadena Animal Control, she said.

The woman holding the child was also holding a hose and watering a lawn when the 150-pound Rottweiler attacked, said Glendale police Sgt. Tom Lorenz, calling it a "horrific and tragic incident" that has shocked crime scene investigators.

He said the dog dragged the infant several feet down the driveway before mauling her. The mother suffered no major injuries.

After being notified of the attack, Glendale police officers went to the place where the victim's father works in Pasadena and drove him to the hospital where his child was pronounced dead, police said.

Well, I asked for stats showing an attack ending in absolute death and you've show that "about half" of Rottie attacks end in fatalities. I don't call that absolute, do you? Regardless, I'd never have a rottweiler in my home, nor would I have a pit bull. I just strongly dislike anyone's use of the word "NEVER" and even more so dislike someone trying to make an issue absolutely black & white when even the statistics show that not every attack by a rottie ends in death no matter how much you'd like to spin it that way.

It's so cheap and easy to pile on when you weren't there, so I'll not judge the mother. I'll just say I don't get it. Barring a complete cerebral shutdown on my part... well, the dog would have to score two corpses to get one.

I couldn't agree more. There are regulations against owning lions and tigers, Rotts and pitts can cause just as much havoc when they want to.

I have placed over twenty good rotties with area police depts and have never received anything but gushing praise.

Never a false bite, either.

If you are responsible for young kids, you keep them away from guns, swimming pools, and dogs. And you buckled them into car seats in cars.

I explained quite clearly why that is not the case.

Travis, come on we're talking maybe ten fatalities a year, now do you honestly believe that if you banned the entire breed tomorrow that the unscrupulous and/or irresponsible owners out there wouldn't pick out another breed to make vicious???

Look at the piece I posted from the Humane Society.
Did you read it?????

Even the Humane Society agrees with me!

If you start punishing the owners instead of the dogs then you see the numbers of dog bites go down dramatically!!!

It's like atomic power, or an automobile, or a gun, or a lawn mower for that matter. You have to be responsible and understand what you are dealing with.

I admire and respect a lot of animal species I wouldn't get anywhere near, let alone let a child near.

Just extending his "final solution" for rotts to other species, based on his reasoning, which is more preposterous than my rhetorical fallacy.

Some rottweilers attack people; therefore, all rottweilers should be exterminated. Where is the logic in this?

No, I teach them how to shoot, how to swim, and how to behave with a dog, and the realities of all of the above.

At least we agree on the car seats.

Logic?

These lemmings have been whipped into a frenzy by the MSM. Logic has long ago been jettisoned in favor of mob rule.

I'm not making anything up. You have your sources and I have mine and they disagree evidentally.

I have to break off and give some Beachnut baby food (chicken in broth) to my old cat....

Cheers!

Thank you!
Yes there are some dogs that are 'born mean' BUT that is still PEOPLE'S fault. It is not the fault of the breed. Backyard breeders (think drug ddealers) and also just people that don't know what they are doing looking to make a quick buck ruin these beautiful dogs. (Yes I have owned a rottie she was the stupidest sweetest dog I ever knew) Then there are the ones that are born fine and taught to be mean. The dog in this story most certainly needs to be put down. I have had mean dogs (and cats) put down myself. However is is not the breed's fault (the dog I had put down was a miniature dachsund) OTOH concientious breeders and owners can justifiably say that ANY breed is a good breed if one uses common sense in BOTH breeding and training.

When they are 6 months old?

"Speaking of Shiatsus, I've recently acquired a two month old Yorkie and she shiats everywhere. I'm new at this and would be eternally grateful for any "potty training your puppy in a New York minute" tips. Thank you."

What's worked for us and our dogs:
1.Take your dog out immediately after eating or drinking. Have set meal times, like morning and night. Do not allow grazing all day--leads to frequent and erratic pooping.
2. Take your dog out at additional times, walking quickly or playing with them. This speeds up the elimination process.
3. After the desired effect, PRAISE them profusely with words or treats or both.
4. Use the same word for going out and when they eliminate. In the house: "Do you have to go potty? Outside: "Go potty?" in an encouraging voice. Praise "Good dog, you went potty!" or similar.
5. Do not reprimand your dog unless you catch him in the act. If you do catch him, say "No" sharply and take him out. If he does it outside, praise profusely.
6. Be patient. Two months old is still so young. Some dogs take several months to get it right every time. They'll get it eventually.
7. Be wary of using newspapers or "puppy pads" in the house-- it works for some dogs. But unless you bring the newspapapers or pads ouside for them to make the connection, some dogs never get that they shouldn't go in the house.
8. If your dog's bathroom habits are unusually frequent, check him out at the vet. Could be a physical problem.

Good luck!

I AGREE!

And I and a multitude of dog trainers around the world can take any dog and train that dog to be an excellent, loving pet! ANY DOG! But people have to educate themselves and their children about dog ownership and how to treat dogs.

Exactly. I would think that you'd be able to smash the dog's windpipe or at least incapacitate it to some degree.

Don't be so sure, from what I've learned, it takes multiple gunshots just to fend off enraged rottweilers, let alone kill them. My fists, or yours, would likely do nothing whatsoever.
