A brain-dead pregnant woman who has been kept on life support for nearly three months to give her fetus more time to develop gave birth to a baby girl Tuesday, the woman's brother-in-law said.
There were no complications during delivery and the baby "is doing well," Justin Torres wrote in an e-mail to The Associated Press.
The baby, Susan Anne Catherine Torres, weighs one pound 13 ounces and is 13 1/2 inches long, he said.
The infant was delivered via caesarean section, the hospital said.
Susan Torres, a 26-year-old researcher at the National Institutes of Health, lost consciousness from a stroke May 7 after aggressive melanoma spread to her brain.

Heck - Hillary did that years ago (well, girl by genetics; if not present appearance).
Seriously: I hope the baby's gonna be okay.
Nice to hear this happened in VA, where the law is automatically pro-life.
A lot of people think that VA has antiquated laws, but can you imagine this happening in New York or CA?
Praying for baby Susan
Or Florida, where mother and baby would have been starved.
Yes. Why not?
Jason Torres quit his job to be by his wife's side, and last month her fetus passed the 24th week of development -- the earliest point at which doctors felt the baby would have a reasonable chance to survive, the brother-in-law said.
Sounds like this is mainly due to her husband, my prayers are with him and his new daughter.

NOW would deplore the use of this woman's body as an "incubator." I'm sure the NY Times would write a concerned editorial worrying that some woman would become brain-dead two days after becoming pregnant and be forced by her Christian fundamentalist (i.e, normal Catholic) family to carry the baby to term. Then Pelosi will sponsor an Abortio-By-Default bill.
You can do better than that.
From article:
"The entire staff and administration of Virginia Hospital Center, especially the physicians and nurses caring for Susan Torres and Baby Girl Torres, are delighted with the successful delivery," the hospital said in a statement.
A spokeswoman declined to release any additional information, including Susan Torres' condition and whether or not her life support was still in place.
Show's you the grace of God is alive and well, and all the more reason to keep up the good fight against the culture of death promoted by the likes of NORAL, NOW and the other leftists.
This is a perversion of the natural order of things by a selfish family and their deceased daughter.
:sigh:
I disagree.
Why not pray for the child instead of whining about her birth?

Yet...this poor mother was brain-dead for 3 months and absolutely none of what you 'predict' above has occurred.
My first reaction was sympathy for this poor child who'll in all liklihood grow up without a mother.
Wouldn't matter. It might be all up to the husband and, of course, insurance and any donations that were thrown their way as in this case. She's been dead three months and used as an incubator until this daughter could be carved out of her lifeless corpse. As it is the girl is horribly tiny and the chances of her being completely healthy and without complications are probably not high. While I feel for the husband and new father, I'm not sure this is the kind of thing we ought to champion, even from a prolife viewpoint. Hey, why not just keep her around and inseminate her for a sibling! She won't mind, I'm sure. After all, she's dead!
