One more nail in the coffin of the traditional Macintosh.

I've always replaced my single button mouse on my Macs with a double.

A multi-button mac mouse, human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria!

Hell Freezes Over, Part II

However, that's one nice mouse design. My only worry is the lack of tactile feedback on the buttons. And no cordless?

Not sure I like the right thumb button. If it is too sensitive, one will accidentaly click it a lot. Certainly that is the case one is playing any sort of action game with it.

This mouse kicks but. I love it. (Plus you can buy it for PCs if you like as well)

Ingenious scroll wheel??? What is so ingenious about that? I have had my Logitech MX 1000 for quite awhile now and it has 4 way scroll functionality. Article should be rewritten, Mac mouse function enters the 21st century 5 years late.

It's a shame Apple waited this long to bring out a multi-button mouse. Damn, but she's a beaut. I especially like the idea of a Scroll Ball (whether I'd like it in practice remains to be seen).

For you PC types out there, it's also compatible with Windows 2000/XP (and I presume 2003 Server).

Yet another example of Apple's penchant for style over substance. The mouse is lozenge-shaped, which looks nice and pretty, but ain't exactly ergonomic. The scroll wheel appears to be located near the front, horizontally centered, where the index finger will have to stretch awkwardly to use it. I'll reserve final judgement until I've tried it, but so far I'm inclined to give it a thumbs-down.

Of course, I may be biased. I switched to a good ergonomic trackball several years ago and never looked back.

In seperate news...

CUPERTINO, California—August 2, 2005—Apple® today introduced AirPort Canned Air, its next generation canned, pressurized air with several innovative new features that make using a Mac® even more powerful and easy. AirPort Canned Air offers power users up to four independently programmable air release speeds, without compromising simplicity for users who prefer just a single-button can.

AirPort Canned Air also introduces an ingenious Scroll Ball that lets users direct the stream of air in any direction—vertically, horizontally and even diagonally. With the Scroll Ball, users can direct air with natural, fluid movements, making AirPort Canned Air perfect for applications from dusting off keyboards and photographs, to blowing out dirty fans and clearing smoke-filled cubicles.

AirPort Canned Air is priced at just $549 per can.

Sooooo...for $49, I can get something that's less ergonomic and has roughly the same functionality as my $30 Logitech MX410. Damn if that ain't Apple marketing in a nutshell right there.

Of course, we're hoping to get one of the semi-infamous surplus Henrico County, VA iBooks for $50 next Tuesday, so maybe I'll need to spend another $50 on a mouse, ya think?

Wow, such innovation. A multi button mouse that can scroll? Those idiots on the PC side would never have come up with such a brilliant idea!!!!

Why does it seem like every apple product announcement in the last 6 months seem like satire?

Thanks, Apple ... but I still don't like the shape of your mice. I think I'll stick with my Kensington ...

I'll reserve judgment. This may be okay at work (graphic design) where they're too cheap to buy tablets, but at home, I'll stick with my Wacom Graphire tablet with cordless mouse and stylus/pen. I love it! Paid $60 for it 5 years ago from someone on eBay who had no clue what he had.
