My Late Father had a role in Bockscar's modifications needed in order to carry Fat Boy. The bomb was so big it would not fit inside the bomb bay. The bomb attachments were extended and if I remember correctly, the landing gear was extended as well to have enough ground clearance.
For the rest of his life he was proud of his small role in ending that horror.
