KATRINA: I called my US Congressman's staff just now. A bit defensive re: FEMA Director Mike Brown. A bit putting the blame on the people who didn't evacuate. Well, FEMA was too slow, Louisiana had a lousy plan compared to Florida and to Texas. I said all should have been READY the weekend before KATRINA. I was told that it was just a category 1 then. I said "we cannot make assumptions about cat ones any more." Further, stated that these were Americans on my tv who were starting to succumb to heat stroke, seniors especially. Was told that this would be sad no matter who it was, American or not.

I stated that we help everyone around the world and get there quickly. This was not fast enough IMO. It's not a democrat or GOP problem. It is a preparedness problem.

My heart goes out to the people who are stranded in NOLO. They trusted the government which was their second mistake after choosing not to evacuate on the weekend.

You can be loyal and patriotic but for gosh sakes, trusting the govt and going where they send you instead of leaving? I feel very sad for everyone whose lives are changed forever by Katrina. God Bless them.

If the Feds are touchy about FEMA's Mike Brown, they must be getting a lot of calls, not just from FV.
