The reports last night were that the mom dropped the kid on the side of the road just where 66 and the beltway converge - if there is anything worse the being dropped on the beltway, that's it. A very bad convergence zone.
Mom was picked up down near Richmond - maybe an hour or so away.
Hope Mom gets to enjoy her upcoming free room and board.
Not sure if it's BS or not, but somebody called into the Elliot in the Morning show (broadcast on DC101 up in Washington and 102.1 down here) who said he was one of the Hanover County EMTs that responded to the accident this "lady" caused near Ashland last night. He said she was totally frozen behind the wheel, didn't move, didn't say anything, never acknowledged their presence, never let go of the wheel or took the car out of gear, never flinched even when they were busting out car windows all around her, to get to her, secure the car, and get her out of the vehicle.
Well, here's hoping she gets a very long time to be catatonic in prison.
And yeah, I know exactly where you're talking about since I used to live up there...man, I didn't feel safe the last time I drove a 4400-pound pickup truck through there, I can't even imagine being a little kid on the shoulder of 495, alone, after "mommy" smacked him in the face, dumped him out of the car, and drove off. Wow.

No kidding. It's a miracle that the boy didn't get run over. I've seen people zoom down the shoulder there when traffic is heavy (i.e., every afternoon, and whenever there's a Redskins game.)
