I thought Regan did speak up. He said agreed with Ann by saying that "He's (kennedy) in for good". About being a bad catholic but being accepted by the dems. In fact he laughed at the statement by Ann. What shouldn't have happened was the camera going full screen to Ann. I would rather they had left if on the split screen so we could see all of the reactions at the end.
You're right: Reagan did speak up. When I first saw it, I didn't pay good enough attention. I guess the silence at the end was what caught my attention.
