For the first time in 46 years there was not going to be an outside mass rally to celebrate the 26 of July, the date in 1953 when Castro and a group of his followers attacked the Moncada barracks in Santiago de Cuba. And now the rumors have been officially confirmed. It seems that Castro is afraid to hold a mass rally under the present conditions in the island, where there have been many protests taking place during the last few days. He feels more secure inside a theatre, where no one can get in without an official invitation.
Record heat and power cuts of 12 hours or more a day led to scattered protests, vandalism and rare anti-Castro graffiti this summer, veteran human rights activist Elizardo Sanchez said. Authorities have responded by mobilising rapid deployment brigades of militant supporters to disperse pockets of protest with batons, he and other dissidents said. "I have not seen such widespread discontent in four decades," said Mr Sanchez, head of the Cuban Commission for Human Rights.

Probably too late to trade some of them left over missiles for a few barges of coal and a train load of fans and air conditioners, eh?
Warm beer will cause a revolt anywhere.
Wow!
Wow. Where'd those photos come from? (Source?)
Wouldn't that be cool!
Surely Cuba has suffered under this regime long enough. I pray that the people put an end to Castro now. They have the power, if only they will believe it. All is in shambles and it would only take one hard push by enough people and it would quickly be over.

CNN didn't report Sadam's terror tactics either as we learned after we got the animal.
The Herald Sun has similar story-- actually some exact wording:

Hurricane Dennis
Good Point!
That is an AUSTRALIAN site. So far complete news blackout on the Cuban Revolution of 2005 in the USA! (Except for Free Republic)
They'll only break for Bush scandals, huricanes or missing people.
The sound I heard were the tears in my eyes.
I dunno . . .the site reporting this seems just a tad biased.
Viva Cuba libre!
Totalitarian regimes usually have a number of expat groups operating outside the country who are prone to over-exaggerating stories about the imminent collapse of the regime. Ask yourself how many stories we've seen in the past years claiming that there are massive protests all over Iran, that the mullahs are about to fall, that there is about to be a huge revolution, etc.--only to have nothing happen. Same is probably true of Cuba. I'm not saying there is no truth to it, just that in my experience people posting these accounts usually have such a strong desire to see the regime collapse that they overdramatize the situation.
There is moisture in the tears of Cuban citizens for 46 long years of tyranny than in all the rain of Hurricane Dennis.
There is MORE moisture in the tears of Cuban citizens for 46 long years of tyranny than in all the rain of Hurricane Dennis.
I don't believe anything until I can get some confirmation from another source. Sorry. The only thing I certainly know is that dissidents have been "detained" and there are many folk upset about this. Still more folk are upset about the economy, etc. Surely, if this event were of any significance, someone would be reporting about the goings on.....
I never knew it was that bad. Amazing and truly a jawdropper. One day, I would love to see him crawl out of a dirt hole like saddam . Tomorrow would not be too soon.
Thanks for opening up my eyes.
