I wasn't complimenting ID4. I was saying it was conventional...as in cliched. Koepp said that people in other countries will probably see the film that way. I couldn't less what they think. However what was onscreen was clearly about 9/11...that 'Wall of the Missing'.

I don't judge Art by how neatly all the knots are tied. There are plot holes in Shakespeare. As pure film making...the formal organization of light, color, space and movement it was virtuoso stuff. And that one Robbins line was too much politics for you? Come on! If you want to get that specific...early on Cruise's son has a homework assignment to finish about the French occupation of Algeria.

relax Binky just an honorable mention from Robbins is all to give you the whole picture of why it stunk on many levels.
Ok so in your opinion watching Tom Cruise run around and bond with his kids is what does it for you in films fine - have SPielberg entitle it "Tom Cruise bonds with kids while pesky aliens get in the way" and release it to lifetime.
you want to make War of the worlds and make it gee i dont know about war of the fricking worlds then do it correctly and move the focus to that ;)
so to sum up, it was not true to the book, did not integrate the best elements of the book and the original movie was better. :)
have a nice day

Are you a Hollywood flack?

My business partner who is a movie goer and a sci fi lover, said WoW was the worst movie he had seen in quite a while.I was quite surprised as he rarely completely knocks a movie.

The film may have great lighting, camera angles, and other tricks, but it failed to connect with the audience.
