It is a mistake to believe that the Islamists will have nothing to do with Arab Nationalists like the Baathists. They will use each other as Saddam used Bin Laden, Zarqawi, Ansar al-Islam, and like Syria has used Hezbollah.
The bottom line is that totalitarian regimes come from the left, are dangerous to the free world and will ally as Hitler and Stalin did to prevent freedom.
Asia was colonized by Europeans and also by the Japanese.
Somehow it survived and thrived(in comparison to Africa or the Arab world.)
