Actually, I believe that some have claimed that there may have been a mistranslation of the Old Testament, and that Hagar may have actually come from Northern Arabia. I.e., someone may have screwed up and put Misr (Egypt) instead of the similar name for Arabia.
YThe oldest known text found was 2600 years old, and referred to an Egyptian. Maybe she got lost before she got to Abe's tent!
