they won't "get in trouble" for stopping some muslim men and searching them. as police officers, they are totally indemnified against civil actions.

Thats bad comedy.

One of my close friends almost lost his badge and had a complaint lodged against him (which required a hearing) because he stopped and questioned someone who looked like a wanted rapist and wore the exact same clothes as the suspect they were looking for.

NYC will protect you from civil suits, then penalize you on there own. It could something like being reassigned to a crappy area or being put on traffic duty.

do you realize how many civilian complaints are filed every year? only the most serious cases even get close to "almost losing a badge". the NYPD under Rudy conducted stop and frisk sweeps all over the city with the street crimes units - far worse then asking someone to open a bag - I didn't see any stories of en masse badge pulling.
