Fine. Then the cops do not consent to let them on the subway.

"Spend $16.99 so you can wear this to your grave"
That pretty much says it...

I live in NYC and I have friends who are cops.
They totally hate this, and think this is one of the dumbest things they have ever been asked to do.

if ya have nothin' to hide; then ya have no reason to object...
maybe the ACLU & the Village Voice would finally wake up to the fact that WE ARE AT WAR if the camel jockeys dropped off one of their infamous IED's at their offices in NYC...
hmmmmmmm

It would make more of a statement if they just wore "I CONSENT TO BEING BOMBED" T-shirts.

They can resign the nypd if they want.
To: Sonny M
they had better start taking it more seriously - because telling citizens to "report suspicious people" and call an 800 number, is about 100 times dumber then having the police be watchful and picking out people to search.
To: BigFinn
As a New Yorker, I consent to anything that will make me safer. Of course, I don't travel with handcuffs, tubes of K-Y jelly, and a French maid's uniform in my briefcase as many Village Voice readers do.

In N.Y. I think it would be safer for the community if the cops went around checking diplomatic crates, boxes, and pouches, not to mention diplomats. (dogs from the U.N.)

maybe your "friends the cops" would rather pick up pieces of human flesh and place them in an evidence bag?
hmmmmmmm
quite the contrary, although I don't believe a word you said about cops not wanting to "protect and serve" by checking bags; the "dumbest thing" I've heard is your post!

How about start training a bunch of bomb-sniffing dogs? Park a couple, with handlers, at every entrance to the subway, or any other pinch-point.

"Fine. Then the cops do not consent to let them on the subway. "
I agree. Such lunacy! I would think this would draw more attention to yourself? Why not just instruct everyone to wear a big backpack filled up with wadded-up newspapers and with wires hanging out, with the pack dripping coke on the floor, and with melted Limburger cheese smeared on the outside?
