...Its obvious that the police can't take any chances under these circumstances and people really do understand...

Hypothetically, if this guy did not have a bomb on him, you would have to be living in Fantasyland to think that the London papers are not going to plaster his mother and children and write sympathetic stories for a month about how this innocent was gunned down in cold blood by the cops. It allows the newspapers to do the three things they love the best, sell papers, act smug, and bash cops.

Really, no. If he really is nothing to do with the terrorist plot (which anyway looks highly unlikely) then, such is the atmosphere in London at the moment everyone will understand that fleeing from the police into a tube station while wearing unseasonably voluminous clothing is liable to get you a bullet or five in the head.

Given that I have spent the past 2 weeks living through these events at quite close quarters I really think that I am better placed than you to evaluate the press and popular reaction.
