On the other hand, have you ever read any of the several declarations of war on the west written by Osama Bin Laden? In one of them, he not only laughs at Clinton's efforts to "negotiate" but he greets them with utter and complete contempt.

There is only one thing that the terrorists understand and respect--and trust me, it is not Miss Manners' etiquette book. It is brute force. We shouldn't care if they "like" us. Respect is what we should aim for--and we won't get that by "understanding" them or appeasing them. In their eyes, that is weakness, which they despise.
