Isn't it funny how Ann can write this column and I see very few attacks on her? I see posts like "gee, i disagree with ann" or "ann, i love you, but you're wrong here". Anyone lately who disagrees with this president gets attacked like no other and labeled as a buchananite, a bush hater, and so on.
Dont forget with the stupid threads posted yesterday saying ARE YOU GOING TO APOLOGIZE FOR THINKING BUSH WOULD PICK THE WORNG GUY??
I'm not saying roberts is the right guy or wrong guy, it's just interesting how these kool aid drinkers react.
As far as this column, Ann is flat-out wrong, and I don't understand why she has published something that will be fodder for the left. Since the nomination is made, it does no good to wring one's hands in public, if she thinks this is a bad choice. What does she want...the President to withdraw this name?
President Bush and his father have spoken before about how Souter was a bad mistake. President Bush campaigned on having someone on the bench who interprets the law rather than making it.
The idea that this man is like Souter is laughable. I am as puzzled and irritated by this column as I was by Peggy Noonan's over the top criticism of the President's Inaugural Address, which also made no sense.
At any rate, she is wrong, and this column's tone is strident and makes me think less of her.
I only scanned most of the comments but I saw a lot of personal attacks, which when you consider she is/was practically this site's mascot is pretty bad.
She'll be banned in a week.
Well that's the point.
Less than 1% of the members here are "Bush haters", but about 30-40% of us are labeled that way periodically simply because we state the type of things Ann Coulter states, but like you said, look at the difference in the tone directed at her as opposed to us.
I believe FR, the ownership and the moderators have seen this over the last 12 months or so and have become more open in allowing BOTH viewpoints, although there remains a bias toward the "blind party loyalists". That is too bad because the best comments are usually from those of us who are the most realistic and don't "follow the crowd".
I believe it became obvious to FR management that there are people like us (and even like Ann Coulter, for gawds sake) that have an alternative opinion at times. I have seen far more tolerance of alternative opinion at FR which has made this site a far better site. Cheerleading sites are not taken seriously, and FR has moved away from that and now is a more serious site for discussion.
