Here's the opening of tonights speech:

My fellow Americans,

Today is known to all as the anniversary of the day that Ted Kennedy left a young staff woman to die in the waters of Chappaquiddick. I hope to make this day honorable again with the nomination of a fine American to the Supreme Court.

It is amazing that with this spotted record, Kennedy is considered qualified to serve in the Senate. I hope he will show some sense of proportion in discussing the qualifications of the person I am nominating tonight for the Supreme Court.

I can still remember the night that my father set up the old Bell and Howell tape recorder (with the microphone on a little plastic stand) in front the the television to tape the televised statement that Teddy made after Chappaquiddick. (This was before VCR's for those of you too young to remember.)

Dad said that he was going to tape this for posterity, because surely this man was going to run for President some day.
