I would have scoffed at the idea myself that the pick was still being changed as late as this afternoon ... until I saw this report from ABC news:
[Clement] received a phone call from the White House this afternoon. According to the source, Clement was thanked for meeting with the president and sharing her views on the Supreme Court, but that the administration has decided to go in a different direction.
I don't think that ABC news is a place I would put any trust into. Do you believe all the MSM?
This didn't completely wiped out Rove talk....
I turned to Air America twice today, one time, they were griping about Rove,....the other time, they were complaining about Bush going into a "weaponless" Iraq!
Think about it: How does ABC news know what was said to Clements in a phone call? Does anybody think she'd share with the press what she was just told? This is wild speculation on ABC's part, and nothing more. We've been having a ball doing it ourselves all day!
Clement was probably never the final choice, but she was a good juicy bone to throw out for the media to grab hold of and run with.
While everyone was chasing thier tail to get all the information they could find on Clement, Bush was calmly setting things up to announce the real pick tonight without the media and Dems having everything prepackaged to start the assault immediately.
Now the news stories for tomorrow's papers will only be of WHO the nominee is. They will have to wait until the next news cycle to start the spin (aka Borking), and by then the American public will have lost interest already.
