They did for a one year period. It was announced in advance as having that specific time duration. They were construction troops and I believe two of about 400 were killed and several wounded.

The problems in Thailand are a resurgence of an old separatist movement which has been renewed partly because of Saudi funded Ponah (schools) built in the last several years throughout Thailand. The Thai tolerate a wide diversity of religions. This will have to change unfortunately. For whatever reason, the World Press has decided the issue in favor of the Muslims based on two incidents (one was a firefight were the Muslims were out gunned and over 100 died, the second was one in which 85 Muslim protesters were suffocated "accidentally" on the way to detention). The Muslims are largely Malay and refuse to learn Thai (It has been 100 years since they had a semi-autonomus state tributary to Thailand). Ethnicity and religion have always been the problem since some 60% of the people are Muslim. That leaves 40% Buddhist and there are very old temples in the area.

"partly because of Saudi funded Ponah (schools) built in the last several years throughout Thailand."

can't the King put an immediate halt to these schools ?
I know certain foreign based religious efforts are blocked ;
Jevohah's Witnesses , Falung Gung (at PRC request) . How much more dangerous are these Saudi Wahabist terrorist schools?

I think the former tough and courageous Siamese grit and warlike nature has been sublimated by the silent invasion of
Sino genes . It has produced and greedy and yet obsequious
society that quakes and grovels when attacked . The current Prime Minister being a prime example of this cultural surrender in action.
Where is the true Siamese King? How can he stand to let this happen to his ancient nation???
