The Times has a long story this morning about a related memo COLIN POWELL was carrying around on Air Force One around the time of the leak. In contrast to their treatment of Rove, it attributes no suspicion to Powell. But he's the only one mentioned in the story.
This was a memo prepared for the State Dept by a staffer who attended and took notes at the meeting at the CIA where Mrs. Wilson introduced her husband after recommending him for the Niger job. This memo was turned over to the grand jury and is thought to be the first instance where admin officials were discussing the wife's role in Wilson's selection.
Powell makes sense in many ways. He was always working the media. Novak described his source as "no partisan gunslinger"..exactly the way most of the media would describe Powell. Now we find out he had the memo and was seen with it on AF One. Hmmm. If it's Powell, the NY Times is in a pickle....it's almost as bad as if they had some negative info on that media darling John McCain!
