China has way too much to on the line right now to be talking nukes. someone in the Party will explain the facts of life to this acknowledged hawk.

Really? We've been hearing an awful lot of this crap from the Red Chinese military. First the two Colonels, then along comes a few Generals.
At some point we have to stop pretending these are all rogue military hawks acting on their own and recognize that they in fact may be articulating official policy.

Actually, that sort of talk is becoming ever more popular. It is the young and educated who are hankering for a war with the U.S. and/or Japan. Yes, the old Communist guard is trying to keep those feelings in check to some degree or at least regulate the anger so that it doesn't turn against them, but it is the new generation of educated, sucessful Chinese who are beginning to beat the drums of war. As this new generation begins to take positions of power in the government you will find this sort of rhetoric coming more and more out in the open.
