Senate Republicans Fight Hard on 'Rove' Amendment. Live on CSPAN2
CSPAN2 | 7/14/05

Posted on 07/14/2005 1:58:01 PM PDT by LisaFab

Anybody else watching the Senate on CSPAN 2? Reid just had his "Carl Rove' amendment to the Homeland Security funding bill read and spoke for about five minutes bashing Rove and Bush.

THEN, the clerk read an amendment proposed by Bill Frist that any office holder who discloses classified FBI information on the Senate floor and uses it to denigrate the U.S. military should have HIS security clearence removed. DURBIN alert!

Wow! Great stuff. Turn on CSPAN 2 immediately!

I can't imagine any republican senator voting for this. If this by some screwy chance passes it won't pass the house and certainly will be vetoed byt eh president. Pure unadulterated political foolishness.

I don't agree that the GOP looks bad, I think the Dems look like doddering, insincere fake patriots. Her attempt to keep the senators clean from the bill is obviously self-serving.

Her argument amounts to "We shouldn't because I don't like it."

The Frist one. Her argument is that senators should be free to speak even if Al Jazeera then picks up on it.

The Frist Amendment (she is picking and choosing phrases, not reading the entire Amendment)

The point is, the bill, in and of itself, is not a bad bill. We should make sure it applies to Senators and then pass it. Let's take the high ground and pass the bill, and then have the administration refuse to give classified info to any Sentator who does not sweat that they will not share it with Kerry or Leahy.

The Dems know what they are saying is pure crap, but their purpose is for the compliant MSM to dutifully put it on the news to influence The Useful Idiots. They're after sound bites.

Dang nabbit, I can't get the stream to work (too broken up to understand)

While the R's have a pair, I'd like to see them put leaky leahy and JFK on the official senate record as having outed CIA agents. While the D's are in a security mood, add an amendment that no Senator nor any staffer will ever talk to a member of the press representing any media that has published details of the CIA's covert aviation operations.

That would cause a tizzy...imagine making it illegal for Senators to talk to the NYTs.
