I grew up on flank steak - my Mom pounded the heck out of it to tenderize it. It was cheap and delicious.
It's been called London Broil for many years, and is now too expensive for my wallet, unless it's on sale.

In Calif. Flank steak (not London Broil) is quite pricey (if found at all) cuz no fat, no bone - Kinda grainy in texture.
Preferred method: marinate over nite, then grilled & cut cross grain.

Growing up we used to have a chuck roast every Sunday, but I had never heard of flank steak til I got married and was introduced to my mother-in-law's 24 hour marinade. Then my father-in-law would grill it to brown on the outside and about medium (right, LG?) on the inside. Incredible.
