Calif. Guard, Israeli mission get terror alert
MSNBC.COM ^ | Updated: 11:03 p.m. ET July 15, 2005 | AP

LOS ANGELES - Law enforcement authorities warned the Israeli Consulate and California National Guard that their facilities were on a list of possible terror targets that police found recently while investigating a string of robberies, officials said Friday.
Were very concerned about it, said Maj. Jon Siepmann, the California National Guards deputy director of communications. There was evidence that an attack was at least being planned.
Police found the list while searching the home of a man arrested last week in connection with gas station robberies in south Santa Monica Bay communities. The list included three National Guard facilities in the greater Los Angeles area, said Siepmann, who described the threat as apparently very serious.
He declined to discuss specifics.
Yariv Ovadia, the Israeli consul for communications and public affairs, declined to discuss details of any threat to his facility or say whether the consulate tightened security in response.
The warnings followed the July 5 arrests by Torrance police of Gregory Vernon Patterson, 21, and Levar Haney Washington, 25, of Los Angeles, on suspicion of robbery. Both men pleaded not guilty to the charges.
FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller confirmed last week that the agencys Joint Terrorism Task Force was investigating the case, but declined to describe the focus of the probe or provide other details.

Four Die in Second Turkish Resort Bombing
BBC ^ | 16 July 2005 | Staff
Posted on 07/16/2005 4:13:44 AM PDT by Our_Man_In_Gough_Island
An explosion on a minibus in the Turkish Aegean resort of Kusadasi has killed at least four people. At least 14 others were wounded. Two British tourists were among the injured, UK diplomatic sources said.
A Turkish television station said Saturday's blast was caused by a suicide bomber, but there has been no official confirmation of the report.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan called the blast a "terrorist attack" without laying specific blame.
The blast comes six days after a bombing in the nearby town of Cesme, which left at least 20 people injured.
Kurdish guerrillas said they carried out a bomb attack in Kusadasi in April, in which one policeman was killed and four other people were wounded.
Militants both from the far left and from Islamist circles have carried out bombings in Turkey in the past, as have Kurdish rebels.
Morning blast
Saturday's minibus explosion took place at 1030 (0730GMT) as the vehicle was travelling through Kusadasi's Ataturk Square, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
The BBC's Jonny Dymond in Istanbul says that Kurdish paramilitaries are the most likely suspects if it was a bombing.
A group called the Kurdish Liberation Hawks (Tak) said it carried out the bombing in Cesme on 10 July.
The Tak is an offshoot of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has been fighting the government for independence since 1984.
More than 37,000 people have been killed since.
The rebels declared a unilateral truce in 1999, but ended it in 2004, saying Turkey had not done enough to meet their demands.

"Taliban hang Afghan tribal chief"
Sat Jul 16, 2005
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Taliban guerrillas hanged a pro-government tribal chief in the troubled southern Afghan province of Zabul, accusing him of being an American spy, officials said on Saturday.
Malik Agha's killing was the fifth in the past six weeks and came as violence mounts in the run up to the Sept. 18 parliamentary elections that the Taliban have vowed to disrupt.
Agha was kidnapped on Friday by Taliban remnants as he came out of a mosque in Atghar district of Zabul and was hanged in a tree, district chief Gul Habib said.
Agha was the chief of a powerful tribe in Zabul near the border with Pakistan, he said.
Abdul Latif Hakimi, a spokesman for the Taliban, said Agha was hanged because he was "a spy for the American forces."
Agha's death came a day after U.S. forces killed 24 suspected Taliban and al Qaeda militants in fierce fighting on the Afghan-Pakistan border."
Good morning Cindy,
The Terrorists could have no better friend than the ACLU. That crap about using the koran to swear folk in at court makes my blood boil. The inmates are truly running the asylum.
If ever in court, I WILL NOT TOUCH OR SWEAR ON A KORAN. I may urinate on one, but that is it!!!
From your link....
Calling the board's claim baseless, Law Minister H R Bharadwaj said the monument was Indian national property.
The board argued the monument was its property since it holds several Muslim graves, and the board is responsible for all Muslim graves in the country.

I agree with you Ian. My position on this matter is that existing immigration laws must be brought back to life and enforced. When we deplete our social security and disability funds for non-citizens, it amplifies the huge problems we are presently experiencing. Illegals certainly should not be abused. Granted MS13 members may not make themselves available for deportation without violence.
Illegals must not be permitted to abuse benefits to which Americans who have worked hard all their lives are entitled and stand to lose or have sharply reduced or age limits increased because of them.
Forcing our hospitals and medical professionals to "write-off" care for illegals is inherently wrong, as are federal write-offs with social security and disability funds. By diligently enforcing existing immigration laws, these problems can be greatly diminished if not eliminated. Non-citizens who are not actively working or studying here need to go home.
America and Americans have big hearts and want to help everyone we can. Our hospitals and doctors are constantly donating time and facilities to care for critically ill people from around the world. We should not, however, be forced to do this for everyone who walks in the hospital door or the doctor's office. Americans without insurance don't have that luxury, why should illegals? CRAG - is it the answer?
TV news reports yesterday described the photo of the London bomber as carrying his backpack, but never mentioned the Koran clutched in his hand. Sissies, politically correct, or just plain ignorant - that's our MSM (if you ignore it, it'll go away...)
